Description

Summary

Save the Children Action Network ("SCAN") - a 501(c)(4) organization - is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We're doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.

SCAN is seeking a Senior Advisor, Communications Strategy to help lead strategy development and execution for SCAN's internal and external communications plans. The Senior Advisor will partner with the communications team at Save the Children's, Marketing Communications and Fundraising Division (MCF) serving as a trusted resource for MCF and SCAN colleagues alike, building and maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship between the divisions, facilitating communications, and coordinating activities in support of shared goals. In addition to the external work with the MCF team, the Senior Advisor will work closely with the SCAN Senior Management Team (SMT) to establish and execute an internal communications strategy, including content creation and coordinate staff across the teams to create a more holistic view of activities across the division and agency at large.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Content Development (35% Internal and External)

  • Develop clear and compelling messages to tell the story of SCAN's work to SCAN advocates, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
  • As the primary content writer for SCAN team create a language guide, in partnership with MCF, that can be used in materials across the team.
  • Lead the overhaul and updates on state and legislative facts sheets.
  • In partnership with fundraising team, draft fundraising sell sheets, proposals, and reports.
  • Create Frequent Asked Questions (FAQs) for state and national campaigns.
  • Develop talking points as necessary for national campaigns.

Communications Coordination (25%)

  • Ensure close partnership and coordination with the agency's Marketing, Communications & Fundraising (MCF) teams.
  • In partnership with MCF communications team, support the communication strategies that raise awareness and support for SCAN policy priorities as well as state and national campaigns.
  • Working with the MCF team, support the development of video needs for the SCAN team.

Internal Communications Strategy (20%)

  • Execute and enhance the Weekly SCAN to promote the weekly work of SCAN staff.
  • Work with Senior Advisor Digital Campaigns to provide content and updates to SCAN's
  • Assist in the distribution of updates and resources across the team.

Leadership Support (20%)

  • Advise and support SMT with developing sensitive communications to strengthen change management efforts, respond to crisis situations, and share strategic decisions.
  • Develop materials and talking points for board meetings, presentations, reports, and site visits.
  • Support content design for large meetings/events as needed, including SCUS board presentations, All Staff meetings, and other presentation opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience working for advocacy or electoral campaigns in a communications role
  • Ability to generate and adapt content that meets the needs of the intended audience
  • Experience writing and producing communications content and communications plans
  • Commitment to language justice
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging

Preferred Qualifications

  • Grassroots organizing and community engagement experience to create change
  • Fluent Spanish speaker
  • Effective public speaking skills
  • Ability to direct photo and video crews to gather compelling assets in the field and at thought leadership events.

Compensation

Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 - $121,600 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 - $110,200 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 - $98,800 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
