Overview:

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Waste Characterization and Transportation/Packaging Lead to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Waste Characterization and Transportation/Packaging Lead provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and recommendations pertaining to characterization, transportation, packaging, and program support for all radiological and non-radiological waste types. Employs broad-based technical and engineering expertise and support for ongoing waste management efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • SME involved in characterization and program support for all radiological and non-radiological waste types (i.e., Low Level Waste, High Level Waste, Mixed Waste, Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Transuranic Waste, Hazardous Waste).
  • Serves as Designated Employee Representative as established under the Department of Transportation regulations applicable to commercial drivers.
  • Scopes technical tasks and develops creative solutions to assigned problems of moderate to difficult complexity. Frequently develops solutions to new and/or unique problems.
  • Incorporates conventional and advanced engineering or scientific practices to a broad range of complex technical requirements to meet the Waste and Transportation/Packaging Program needs.
  • Leads waste stream profile technical documentation revisions and prepares modeling to support calculations and incorporates into Waste Certification Plans.
  • Interfaces with SRNS Solid Waste Engineering to resolve technical questions concerning waste stream profiles, calculations, transportation, packaging, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership and direction to facility personnel involved with all aspects of waste management, packaging, and transportation.
  • Performs field walk downs and assessments to ensure field work is performed to meet waste stream profiles, calculations and procedures.
  • Reviews work packages for potential generation of waste streams.
  • Develops, verifies, tests, and performs engineering calculations for compliance with applicable engineering standards and waste acceptance criteria requirements. Performs verification of calculations, reports, and other documents/data performed by others for accuracy and subject matter expertise.
  • Evaluates proposals, makes recommendations and influences outcome of proposed waste, transportation/packaging projects/tasks in area of assignment.
  • Prepares cost and schedule estimates on proposed waste, transportation/packaging projects/tasks in assigned area.
  • Performs waste generation forecasting.
  • Demonstrates cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects to meet deadlines and milestones.
  • Composes/edits manuals and other documents needing revision (e.g., waste streams profiles, procedures, Waste Certification Plan) supporting or publicizing information about the Waste and Transportation/Packaging Programs.
  • Leads and/or mentors those with less experience.
  • May make presentations to organization leaders or other stakeholders.
  • Obtains safety training, obeys safety rules, and makes safety an integral part of each task.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university in a technical discipline (e.g., science, engineering) and related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Nuclear or Chemical related degree preferred.

  • Experience in DOE waste management, transportation/packaging programs.

  • Experience with DOT transportation regulations, requirements and application.

  • Experience in radiological or chemical inventory activities.

Minimum Pay:
USD $110,700.00/Yr.
Maximum Pay:
USD $199,260.00/Yr.
