Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is Hiring a SY 24-25 School Social Worker-Project PREVENT Near Savannah, GA

This position is advertised until filled.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for acting as a liaison for school, family, and community in dealing with student problems that interfere with educational development at assigned schools. Participating schools are Gadsden Elementary, Hodge Elementary, DeRenne Middle School, Myers Middle School, and Beach High School.

REPORTS TO: Director of Counseling Services
SALARY SCHEDULE: Teacher
WORK DAYS: 190
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education Level: Master's Degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
Experience, Skill and Certification:
  • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in the assigned teaching field School Social Work P-12.
  • Experience in education or related field
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Provides necessary social services to referred students including home visits, conferences, referrals to other school resources and/or community agencies, or other services as appropriate.
  2. Provides regular feedback to the referral source on the development of cases referred and develops with the referral source a problem resolution plan.
  3. Organizes, participates in, and contributes to special projects aimed at improving school attendance.
  4. Furnishes local and state reports as required.
  5. Carries out school social work duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of the local school system, and the laws of the State of Georgia related to compulsory school attendance.
  6. Participates regularly in staff development and in-service activities for professional growth and/or certification upgrade.
  7. Coordinates matters relating to child abuse with schools and serves as a resource person to the schools in this area.
  8. Works cooperatively with other agencies in the community in resolving individual and family problems which interfere with the school attendance of students.
  9. Works on call due to crisis cases.
  10. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
Terms of Employment
Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 190 days . Salary will be determined based on the highest level of certification and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. Exempt Revised 10-2020
This position is funded through Project PREVENT grant and is contingent on availability of funds.
