Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is Hiring a Behavior Support Teacher Near Savannah, GA

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for providing support to area schools and working together with students, teachers, parents, and building administrators to develop interventions (strategies) for the classroom and/or school environment that allows students to be successful behaviorally. This position is located at The Front Porch.

REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Special Education
SALARY SCHEDULE: Teacher
WORK DAYS: 190

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Level:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of special education or a related field

Preferred: Education related to children with behavioral disorders

Experience, Skill and Certification:
  • Valid Georgia Professional certification in a special education field
  • One to three years of experience in teaching
  • One to three years of experience in working with children with behavioral difficulties
  • Valid Georgia Professional certification in a special education field
  • Experience in developing, training, implementing, and monitoring behavior plans
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and outstanding social skills
Preferred:
  • Certification in the field of behavior disorders
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Assists staff members with behavioral techniques to decrease disruptive behaviors of students.
  2. Assists in the implementation and leadership of effective Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) programming in schools.
  3. Collaborates and trains staff, administrators, parents and others, as necessary, in the development of functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  4. Provides continuous support and feedback to personnel designated to implement behavior intervention plans, collect behavior data, and complete progress monitoring and other data collection for response to intervention team meetings.
  5. Assists schools in collecting and analyzing discipline data, and actively participates in School Data Teams to reduce discipline referrals and use alternatives to suspensions when possible.
  6. Develops and implements specific instructional lessons to support skill acquisition of pro-social behaviors for targeted students.
  7. Provides professional learning opportunities to school personnel related to classroom management techniques and other strategies supporting positive behavior supports.
  8. Follows policies of the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools and the Department for Exceptional Children.
  9. Upholds the highest standards of confidentiality.
  10. Provides support to teachers/paraprofessionals (both special and regular education).
  11. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students.
Terms of Employment
Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 190 days. Salary will be determined based on highest level of certification and allowable experience. Exempt.
