Savannah Chatham County Public School System is Hiring a Maintenance Mechanic II Near Savannah, GA

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for performing skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the district’s buildings and equipment.

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-6
WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education Level:
• High school diploma and two years experience in maintenance, repair or construction trade work or its equivalent
• G.E.D. and Diploma from an accredited vocational institution or approved professional certification training program and two years experience in maintenance, repair or construction trade work or its equivalent
• G.E.D. and two years Savannah Chatham County Public School internal, relevant maintenance experience OR three years experience in maintenance, repair or construction trade work or its equivalent
Preferred: Technical or vocational courses in one or more trades

2. Experience, Skill, and Certification:

• Two or more years experience in maintenance, repair or
construction trade work or its equivalent
• Demonstrable knowledge of tools, materials and standard
practices of building and/or equipment maintenance trades
• Demonstrable knowledge of types and qualities of various
equipment and their adaptability and use in specific situations
• Ability to use tools and equipment of maintenance and
construction trades
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions
• Able to qualify for commercial driver's license

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Performs the necessary tasks of the assigned trade (carpentry, painting,
electrical, and so on).
2. Performs other maintenance, repair, or construction tasks to buildings, other
district property or structures, and equipment as necessary.
3. May assign and monitor the work of other maintenance staff assigned to the same
project; may instruct other maintenance staff in the proper use and care of handtools, equipment, hardware, materials, and supplies.
4. Ensures that proper safety procedures are followed.
5. Cleans, repairs and maintains equipment and tools as appropriate and ensures
proper storage.
6. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and
the safety of students and staff.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days. (G-6), Non-exempt, Public School Employees Retirement System Eligibility Revised 07/2018
