Savannah Chatham County Public School System is Hiring an Accounting Specialist-Oglethorpe Near Savannah, GA

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for the accurate and up-to-date posting of accounts and purchase orders, along with other administrative duties.

REPORTS TO: Principal, Oglethorpe Charter School

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-10

WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: 
  • High School Diploma

Preferred: • College-level accounting courses or degree

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 
  • Must have several years of bookkeeping or accounts payable experience with increased responsibility
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as strong interpersonal relations skills
  • Demonstrable ability to be self-motivated and to take self-directed actions and to be responsible for decision-making

Preferred:

  • Office management experience
  • Experience with payroll functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Assists Principal with the budget process.
  2. Assists auditors and accountants in the audit process.
  3. Prepares, enters and records all disbursements to proper expenditure accounts.
  4. Prepares purchase orders, orders materials (secure best price), receives materials, follows-up on back orders, and disburses materials to proper department.
  5. Reviews vendor invoices and reconciles vendor statements.
  6. Maintains accurate filing system.
  7. Issues checks for signatures.
  8. Prepares a monthly financial report for the finance committee and /or the Governing Board.
  9. Attends finance committee meetings, as needed.
  10. Ensures that payroll information is properly entered into system.
  11. Prepares state and corporate renewal papers prior to April 1.
  12. Maintains all financial records in Quickbooks.
  13. Works with the Governing Board Treasurer to perform duties as directed.
  14. Works with the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education staff to reconcile Board of Education payroll income and expenses.
  15. Provides data to accountant for filing of tax form 990 prior to November 15.
  16. Notifies bank of signature changes and provide the necessary forms.
  17. Prepares, notarizes, and files employment contracts for faculty and staff under the direction of the Principal.
  18. Assists the Principal with human resource issues.
  19. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 229 days.
