($500.00 on first check and $2,000.00 at 1 Year)Starting at $28 to $30/hourRailroad RetirementOpportunities for GrowthPaid HolidaysExcellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with matchWe provide Uniforms & PPE (laundering included) Here is what you will be doingConduct railcar and train movements; signal engineer for movement of the engine or train using lantern, hand, and/or radio to indicate when to start, stop, back up, etc.Observe, interpret, and relay arm, lantern or radio signals and all other indications affecting movement of a trainOperate track switches (visually check switch condition and direction) to change the direction of the engine or cars within yard, customer facility or on the main line. Apply or release hand brakes to switch or perform other dutiesRead and understand the rules, timetables, bulletins, train orders, waybills, placards, safety instructions, and other written or printed material (SAVAGE rules, GCOR and UTA rules)For safety reasons, must be able to read, write and understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in EnglishPrepare required daily reports and switch lists, either manually or with a computer; fill out forms, including train orders and complete the mobile reporting of performed work in the provided inventory management system.Inspection of all equipment to include railcars, switches, rail, and locomotives before any movement.Couple air and electrical connections between locomotives when making up trainsPerform other duties as assignedTeam members are subject to pre-employment and random federal drug testing in compliance with 49 CFR Part 219. Team Member must pass background investigation to include: Criminal history, Driving record and Physical. And must complete training in accordance with 49 CFR 242.Requirements of a successful Locomotive Engineer/ConductorCapable of understanding printed, written and oral communicationsCapable of recognizing colors and understand meaning of signals (color vision test required as noted in CFRs)Capable of judging speed/distance relating objects on or around the railGreat hand/eye coordinationWilling and capable to take actions and/or make decisions affecting/protecting the safety of othersTwo years of related experience. Railroad experience preferredWillingness/Ability to work days, nights and weekends in a work environment with exposure to outside in all weather conditions. Here are some of the physical requirements for this roleClimb in and out of the equipmentAscend and descend ladders and steps and should not have a fear of heightsMust be able to lift 80 lbs.Must be able to climb on and off railcars and locomotivesMust be able to walk on ballast/uneven ground for up to 12 hours/dayMust be willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts
