POSITION SPECIFICS

Title: Unit Secretary/CNA

FTE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)

Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday

POSITION SUMMARY

Coordinates the daily surgery schedule to best utilize the operating rooms and to respond to staff, physician and patient needs. The position also performs direct patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate all aspects of preparation for the daily surgery schedule. Requires interaction with a diverse group of people to prioritize the day's surgery schedule.
  2. Communicate changes in the surgery schedule, emergency or STAT situations, messages, etc.
  3. Accurately and methodically transcribe ordered surgical case appointments to the Electronic Medical Record, OR Module.
  4. Legibly transcribe daily surgical schedule, which includes daily staffing assignments and contacts staff who have schedule changes.
  5. Maintain open line of communication with physicians, their office staff, other departments such as pathology, neurology, medical imaging, presurgical coordinator, and all other areas of the Surgery Department.
  6. Compile information and records. Transcribe staff meetings and Committee minutes.
  7. Responsible for assisting with ordering supplies as requested.
  8. General secretarial functions, such as filing, mail and maintaining office supplies.
  9. Assist with Quality Improvement projects.
  10. Maintain strict confidentiality.
  11. Prepare, maintain, and take down charts per unit protocol
  12. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assist CNA team on an as needed basis by performing duties such as but not limited to;
  • Report changes in a patient’s physical or mental status to the nurse.
  • Remove IV catheters.
  • Perform glucose screening.
  • take vitals and document patient cares according to unit policies.
  1. Adhere to the Surgery Department Code of Ethics as it pertains to other team members.
  2. Provide information to patients based upon the cares being provided.
  3. Ensure a clean and safe patient environment, equipped with adequate supplies for each patient. Assist in keeping the patient rooms, supply rooms, and hallways clean and orderly.
  4. Assist with other duties as assigned to ensure the operation of the department

Certification(s):

  • Required: Certified Nursing Assistant certification required after 1 year of employment in position . Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire date
