Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital is Hiring a MA, CMA, LPN - Orthopedic Associates (Full Time) Near Prairie, WI

POSITION SPECIFICS

Title: Medical Assistant / Certified Medical Assistant / Licensed Practical Nurse

FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

Schedule: Monday-Friday - exact days to be determined - between the hours of 7:30AM-5:00PM

Holiday Rotation: None

Weekend Rotation: None

POSITION SUMMARY

The MA, CMA or LPN under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting. The MA, CMA or LPN is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination/procedure, sterilization of medical instruments and administering medications as directed by provider or designee. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, filling out insurance forms/paperwork and pre-authorizations if needed.

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming workflows.
  2. Demonstrates and understands infection control, sterile and aseptic techniques. Uses appropriate techniques in setting up or assisting with procedure.
  3. Enters and processes all orders (e.g. diagnostic, office procedures) and assists in the scheduling of procedures.
  4. Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results.
  5. Applies splints or braces as directed by physician.
  6. Assists with other procedures such as dressing changes and wound care, performs suture and staple removal, cast application & removal, joint aspiration, etc.
  7. Reviews patient medical record to ensure all necessary information is present prior to each visit.
  8. Prepares patients for injections such as epidural steroid injections (ESI)
  9. Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.
  10. Collects and records accurate telephone information and relays it to medical provider or nurse in a timely manner.
  11. Cleans, prepares, and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilizations per infection control policies and procedures.
  12. Check inventory and order supplies as needed.
  13. Provides patient education only under the direction of medical provider or nurse.
  14. Performs delegated MD/Nursing acts commensurate with education, training, competency and experience.
  15. Schedule referrals/outpatient diagnostic procedures including patient prep information and coordinate prior authorizations
  16. Collect laboratory samples.
  17. Depending upon location and/or department may be responsible for basic computer scheduling, rescheduling, canceling and coordination of appointments.
  18. Assists in emergency situations.
  19. Participates in site process improvement teams.
  20. Performs maintenance tasks such as cleaning and disinfecting patient treatment rooms prior to and after patient visits, changing garbage bags as needed, etc.
  21. Performs other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Required:
    • MA: High school graduate or equivalent
    • CMA: High School graduate or equivalent with graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Training program
    • LPN: Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • Preferred: None

Experience:

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Experience working in a healthcare setting

Licenses and Registrations:

  • Required:
    • MA: None
    • CMA: None
    • LPN: State Licensure or eligible for State Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Preferred: None

Certification(s):

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of appointment for all classifications
    • CMA: Medical Assistant by an approved national examination agency within 6 months of appointment
  • Preferred:
    • MA: Certification by one of the following national examination agencies:
      • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or
      • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA); or
      • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
      • Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcare Association (NHC)
    • CMA: None
    • LPN: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
