POSITION SPECIFICS

Title: RN – Orthopedic Associates

FTE: Per Diem

Schedule: Variable weekdays between the hours of 7:30am-5:00pm

Holiday Rotation: None

Weekend Rotation: None

On Call Requirements: None

POSITION SUMMARY

The RN-Clinic will be the patient’s point of contact when calling or presenting with a medical need or concern. This position will work with physicians and physician extenders to provide advice, care and direction to the patient. The RN-Clinic will work collaboratively with the physicians and physician extenders to ensure patients are cared for efficiently and effectively while keeping that patient at the center of care to achieve a positive patient experience. 

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs triage or screens telephone call related to patient care.
    • Obtains appropriate information with attention to detail and accuracy (i.e. using direct symptom related questions – keeping patient focused.)
    • Makes nursing assessment utilizing, theory and judgment and the information provided by the patient.
    • Implements appropriate care using nursing assessment, critical thinking skills, protocols, and standing orders
    • Involves the patients’ physician or physician extender when necessary to ensure the appropriate plan of care is initiated.
    • Ensures that patient understands the plan of care and is able to follow through as directed.
  1. Obtains document and work with the physicians to manage anticoagulation therapy to achieve optimal therapeutic levels.
  2. After obtaining anticoagulation management certification, will develop protocols to allow RN to independently manage anticoagulation therapy patients.
  3. Assists in clinical practice as directed by Clinic Manager.
  4. Refills medication as directed by the prescriber.
  5. Develops written refill protocols for physicians and physician’s extenders.
  6. Assists physicians and physician extenders with procedures as directed.
  7. Documents in the patient electronical medical record as directed by the practices established workflow.
  8. Administers medication by all routes. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques. Recognizes the implementation of dosages, interactions, side effects, adverse effects, routes of administration of drugs as they apply to individual patients. Uses knowledge of medications in instructing patients about medication therapy.
  9. Performs delegated medical acts and provides supervision as needed in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to the unlicensed personnel.
  10. Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming workflows as requested.
  11. Assist with scheduling outpatient diagnostic procedures and coordinate prior authorizations as needed.
  12. Plays a significant role in the development and distribution of patient educational pieces.
  13. Takes a leadership role in the facilitation of department functions including mentoring new staff and ensuring policies & procedures are followed.
  14. Leads and participates in site process and policy improvement teams.
  15. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, protocols, standing orders and quality improvement processes.
  16. Performs other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing
  • Preferred: None

Experience:

  • Required: 1-3 years in a healthcare setting
  • Preferred: Clinic, med surg, and orthopedic experience

Licenses and Registrations:

  • Required: State Licensure or eligible for State Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Preferred: None

Certification(s):

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire. Anticoagulation Management certification within 9 months of hire
  • Preferred: Advanced Life Support (ACLS)
