Join our team and make a difference as a Booking/Huber Specialist with the Sheriff's Department.

The purpose of the Booking / Huber Specialist is to perform clerical, data entry, and records management system-related tasks for the Security Division of the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
Booking/Huber Specialists work 10-hour shifts. Shift hours are 6:30am to 4:30pm (first shift), 1pm to 11pm (second shift), and 9pm to 7am (third shift). Shift preference is seniority-based with newly hired employees being assigned second or third shift.
The work rotation consists of a fixed two-week schedule. One week the employee works Sunday/Monday/Wednesday/Thursday and the following week works Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday/Saturday. This results in a four-day weekend off (Friday – Monday) every other weekend.

Essential Duties

  • Book inmates into custody of the Jail or Huber facility. Verify charges and/or sentences. Receive and enter required information into the Records Management System (RMS).
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, law enforcement officers, inmates, and the general public to perform required tasks and answer general questions.
  • Perform TIME system related tasks such as warrant entry and validation.
  • Release inmates from custody. Process cash bond payments, verify outdates, and complete related paperwork or computer entries in RMS.
  • Conduct intake booking duties as required by the Circuit Courts.
  • Update inmate files to include court events, work release schedules, and various appointments.
  • Obtain, enter, and/or clarify documents received from various internal and external agencies including the Clerk of Court, District Attorney’s Office, Child Support Agency, and other correctional agencies.
  • Enter data into and utilize various computer systems including RMS, medical, and inmate banking programs.
  • Receive and route telephone calls and messages, answer questions. Read and reply to emails, briefing reports, and other messages.
  • Log incoming documents and visitors for inmates as well visitors who enter the secure portion of the building.
  • Enter, review, modify, and edit department data into the RMS or other computer programs.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure timely and accurate work product. Possess the ability to multitask and manage interruptions which may include unruly or difficult detainees.
  • Photocopy, scan, sort, distribute, enter, and file documents or electronic records.
  • And other duties as assigned.


Required Working Hours

Standard working hours may vary between first shift, second shift, and third shift. This position works 10-hour shifts with every other weekend and holidays off. Please note these hours are subject to change and additional hours may be needed or required. Emergency on call may be needed. Compensation beyond normal hours will be subject to applicable collective bargaining agreement, state and federal regulations.

Minimum Training and Education

Required:
High School diploma or equivalent
Licenses/Certifications:
Become Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified within six months of start date
Become a Notary Public within 6 months of start date

Preferred:
Vocational or technical training in business administration or clerical
1 year of related experience

Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
