This teaching position provides direct instruction and supervision of high school-aged students in the area of Medical Assisting. Because this program is a NH Department of Education-approved Career Technical Education program, the program’s curriculum is designed to meet a rigorous set of core program competencies that will prepare students with the skills and knowledge to either enter the workforce or transition successfully into a post-secondary education program in Medical Assisting or a related field. This program prepares students to sit for their Phlebotomy and Medical Assisting Certifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on national, state and local curriculum through a combination of classroom and laboratory experiences.
  • Understands and implements successful practices regarding curriculum management, instruction and assessment.
  • Understands the needs of students and implements successful classroom and behavior management.
  • Provides community-based instruction and projects based on program guidelines and requirements.
  • Manages and maintains program facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains an up-to-date inventory of equipment.
  • Adheres to all state guidelines required for the implementation of a successful program.
  • Provides a classroom environment that promotes active learning in the subject area.
  • Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, administration and community members.
  • Accounts for student attendance, grading and assessments of student learning.
  • Follows all local, state and federal policies procedures to be a professional educator.
  • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities.
  • Participates in activities related to meeting all professional responsibilities.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE
 
Education: Associate’s Degree and Medical Assistant Certification or Associates degree or higher in Nursing.
Certification: Must have or be eligible to earn a NH Teacher Certificate in Career Technical Education Specialty Area 2700 Health Science. Preferred but not required certifications in Medical Assistant, Basic Life Savings and Phlebotomy.
Experience: At least three years of related industry and/or classroom experience recommended.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Classroom and student behavior management experiences.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare field, medical specialty and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of the standard/ethics of medical practice and current issues in healthcare 
  • Knowledge of Medical Assistant Administrative Responsibilities– computer applications, patient communication skills, maintaining medical records and insurance forms, arranging hospital and laboratory services, and general bookkeeping, etc.
  • Knowledge of Medical Assistant Clinical Duties – preparing patients for exams, assisting physicians as needed, preparing laboratory specimens and basic laboratory tests, instructing patients on medicines and special diets, administering medications as directed by a physician, prescription refills, removing sutures and changing dressing, drawing blood, and other patient liaison responsibilities, etc. 
  • Ability to develop in students job-related skills including: time management, ability to work both independently as well as part of a team; punctuality, work ethic, leadership, etc.
  • Knowledge of appropriate procedures to ensure safe operation of relevant tools and equipment. 

 
Working Conditions

  • This position will require work in both classroom & lab environments, and potential visits to lab sites
  • Work could include attending events outside of the regular contract day.
