About the job

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test within the SAS Decisioning R&D organization, you will join a team of talented engineers working collaboratively to ideate and deliver leading edge, innovative products and solutions that enable SAS customers to deploy analytics with business rules in new ways. You will contribute to projects spanning a diverse set of technologies and industries. We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test who wants to get involved with the next generation of SAS analytic deployment platform, SAS Decision Builder.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a new software as service offering being built on Azure. You will get the chance to work with our existing Kubernetes enabled products and create new automated testing, certifying new functionalities specific to integrations with target Azure environment and external service integrations. You will have the opportunity to grow your technical skills with contributions to Python and Typescript based automation, along with learning and/or deepening your knowledge of containerization and Azure cloud technologies.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, you will:

• Actively participate in all phases of the development lifecycle
• Architect and engineer a comprehensive and automated strategy to provide continuous confidence in the quality of our hosted offerings, leveraging cloud native tools.
• Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks, tools, and scripts that enable the delivery of consistently high quality software.
• Develop test plans that will provide exceptional coverage for both the functional and non-functional attributes of software that are important to our customers’ overall experience.
• Provide regular reports on the state of our current software quality and perform gap analysis to identify and prioritize areas for investment.
• Keep apprised of emerging technologies, trends, architectures, and implementation techniques as they relate to the delivery of applications, integrations, and data in CI/CD.
• Comprehend complex usage concepts and assess applications’ ability to fulfill them
• Design, develop, document, and execute manual tests when automated scripts are not available.
• Perform peer code review
• Identify risks, issues, potential defects, or defects in any phase of the project life cycle, managing them through closure
• Demonstrate aptitude for problem solving and debugging of complex software systems; ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical problems

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field
• 8 years of experience developing automated tests using REST, Python, or other modern frameworks
• Demonstrated mastery with Python
• Working experience developing, deploying, and maintaining infrastructure in a public cloud platform, such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience implementing a CI/CD pipeline
• Experience authoring automated test cases
• Working familiarity with REST APIs
• Working familiarity with Linux Operating Systems and Bash Scripting
• Working familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Git, GitHub, GitLab
• Exposure to container platforms and technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
• Solid debugging skills
• Experience working in an agile software development environment
• Prior experience working with collaboration tools such as Jira

Preferred qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency with JavaScript or Typescript
• Familiarity with modern test automation frameworks like Playwright and Pytest.
• Exposure to programming languages such as Java or Go.
• Ability to work as part of a group, guiding strategic projects to completion, engaging teammates as necessary to ensure success.
• Ability to clearly articulate a testing and automation strategy to stakeholders
• Exceptional aptitude for problem solving and debugging of complex multitiered software applications.
• Ability to pivot quickly and seamlessly as projects and business needs dictate.
• Highly skilled in written and verbal communications.
• Comfortable working in a distributed, team-based environment
