Our Natural Areas and Trails department is in need of a Land Manager, capable of developing and implementing resource management plans and natural resource monitoring programs for County-owned natural areas. The ideal candidate is strong in communication, technical, and project management skills, with prior resource management experience such as prescribed burning, exotic species management, habitat restoration, GPS, etc. This position starts out paying between $57,577.60 - $63,003.00 (based upon experience) and benefits begin within 60 days of hire! About the Position
In this role you will complete the following tasks for multiple managed sites...
Evaluate habitats (natural and altered) to formulate management strategies for their restoration and maintenance.
Prepare and implement a management plan for each assigned managed site, creating reports and other documentation as required.
Document and monitor listed species occurrences/populations.
Develop inter-agency agreements for cooperative natural resource management on County-owned lands.
Perform annual conservation easement inspections and submit reports.
Review research and recreational use permit applications.
Coordinate and manage volunteers.
Develop invasive plant management plan and annual work plan.
Document and monitor nuisance and exotic plant and wildlife populations.
Manage FISC category 1 and 2 plants through multiple methods including mechanical treatment and chemical treatment, using best management practices.
Assist with budget planning.
Prepare bid specifications and contractor oversight for resource management projects to be performed by an outside contractor.
Manage a division mowing contract.
When applicable, prepare grant applications to supplement funding of resource management projects. Follow with oversight of project once awarded.
Develop annual burn plan and write or assist with developing burn prescriptions for zones on annual burn plan.
Identify and facilitate implementation of burn prep needs as applicable.
Participate on prescribed fires on the Division of Natural Areas and Trails preserves and parks.
Monitor and maintain park facilities and amenities.
Develop, present and/or coordinate interpretive programs for public education.
Patrol County lands to provide staff presence, to reduce security issues, and to respond to citizen concerns on County-managed lands.
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
Monday - Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biological or physical science (or related field) and three (3) years of professional experience.
  • OR- Master's degree may substitute for one year of professional experience.
  • OR- Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.
Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
Certified NATA Natural Areas Manager (or ability to obtain within 3 years)
Completion of Basic Wildland Firefighting (S-130/190), Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290), Wildland Fire Chainsaws (S-212) and Completion of ICS 100-200 within 3 years. It is preferred but not mandatory to pass moderate or arduous pack test and shelter deployment annually.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
Physical Demands: This position must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
