GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Serves as analyst using the application of extensive analytical research and interpretive techniques, and the use of numerous investigative, intelligence and informational sources and bases nationwide.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks which are also performed but are incidental to the primary functions. Personal characteristics required of all employees such as honesty, industry, sobriety and the ability to get along with others, are presumed qualities and may not be listed specifically. Utilizes all available sources of information as appropriate to collect, evaluate, collate and analyze intelligence information to produce tactical and strategic assessments or special reports for dissemination;Follows established policies, prepares analytical reports and assessments based upon information provided for FDLE and other law enforcement agencies upon request;Prepares staff studies or other reports and/or conducts research as required for the needs of the division relating to the investigations or concerns affecting local law enforcement agencies;Provides assistance to the analyst supervisor on administrative and supervisor matters as needed;Participates in research projects related to sophisticated or complex criminal activity, to determine patterns, events, identities and activities or criminal groups;Follows FDLE's and the Bureau's policies and procedures relating to the dissemination of criminal intelligence;Follows FDLE policy and State and Federal Law regarding the dissemination of criminal history information;Performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Communicate using speaking, hearing and vision skills, use of data entry equipment; manual dexterity. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Office. KNOWLEDGE OF: Procedures relating to modern practices, principles and methods of the criminal justice system to include major case investigation; procedures relating to the collection and analyzing of intelligence information relating to various criminal activities; various resources, both State and Federal, which produce criminal intelligence in relationship to complex criminal activity or criminal groups. ABILITY TO: Type; operate personal computers and networked communication systems; write in a clear, concise, accurate, and well organized manner; communicate with a wide range of individuals needing assistance from various Law Enforcement Agencies. Research skills, writing skills, pattern recognition skills, statistical analysis skills & time management skills. Ability to analyze information. Determine patterns in criminal activity and crime trends using a variety of methods such as interpretation of complex data and application of a variety of statistical methodology in addition to geographical analysis using complex geographical information systems (GIS) techniques. Prepare reports and computerized mapping on crime data and trends.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
ADDITIONAL: Preference is given to applicant with experience in automated law enforcement computer systems; statistics and statistical methods of tracking and communicating data; knowledge of Arc View GIS or Geographic Information Systems. Ability to use various types of software programs and spreadsheet computer programs, and experience in crime analysis, intelligence analysis or any equivalent combination of training and experience in a related field is preferred. May require shift work. LICENSE: Applicant must have a valid Florida Driver's License at the date of hire and maintain said license while employed in this position. May be required to obtain NCIC/FCIC certification within (6) months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment. ADDITIONAL: Must submit to and pass a thorough background investigation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, and medical exam/drug screen if a new hire.
