ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervises a group of children.
Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
Attend staff meetings and trainings.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Maintain positive relations with participants, parents and other staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Insure the program attains the highest standards as established by the Santa Monica Family YMCA.
Insure the safety of all your children at all times. Children must be within eyesight of their counselor at all times. Children are never to be left alone or unattended. All children must be accounted for at all times.
Carry a roster with you at all times. Take daily attendance of participants.
Insure children are signed in properly and picked up from their classrooms on time and signed out before released. Children may leave only with their legal guardians or those designated by their legal guardians. Check ID’s of people picking up children to assure they are on the pick-up list.
Make sure all surrounding areas and activities are safe. Inspect all areas and play environments for unsafe conditions or broken equipment. Report all unsafe conditions to the Program Director.
Review rules of each play area daily with your kids. Follow all rules yourself, be a good role model, and display the four core character values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility, & Honesty at all times.
Be to work on time with a positive attitude and ready to work.
Attend all meetings and trainings.
Respect and abide by all the policies and procedures established by the Santa Monica Family YMCA. Read your Employee Manual.
Follow YMCA and youth department dress code: Wear appropriate clothing; including YMCA shirt & closed-toed shoes. All pants must be worn no shorter than the four-inch inseam and all attire and appearance must be neat and clean. No hoop or earrings that hang down. Hats and sunglasses are only to be worn outside. Staff are not permitted to wear earbuds while on duty.
Adhere to all policies and procedures while on field trips and in the facility.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
CPR, First Aid and AED certifications must be current or completed before working with children.
In-house and online Sexual Harassment, Child Abuse and Safety Trainings must be completed within the first 30 days of employment and updated annually.
Absolutely no contact with program participants outside of the YMCA either in person, via social media, text, online, etc. Babysitting or caring for children who are enrolled or were enrolled in the program is prohibited. Any outside contact with current or former enrollees of the program will result in immediate termination.
Employees should be aware that all information published on a blog or public website is public accessible. You are advised to be mindful that the information you post on the internet will likely be seen by members of the Santa Monica Family YMCA community and could reflect poorly on your character. Therefore, information posted on public websites that reflects poor character values is putting your job at risk.
Employees may not wear headphones or earbuds while on duty.
Employees may only use their cell phone when off duty or for emergencies.
Employees may not take pictures or post pictures of campers or program participants on any form of social media.
Employees may not accept financial or cash gifts or payments from parents or guardians.
