General Function:
Provides project management and oversight for all phases of school construction projects from programming to construction closeout. Procures, contracts, and coordinates contractors, and intimately involves self in process. Will manage complex construction projects, ensuring a high level of quality while specifications are being met and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. Responsible for understanding District programs, implementing building design guidelines, and maintaining project documentation. Must be capable of working in large organizations with multiple stakeholders and possess exceptional communication skills, written and verbal.

Education/Training/Experience:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (project management, engineering, architecture) or a Journeyman’s license or higher in related construction trade(s). Five or more years assisting or supervising complex construction projects.
Preferred: Seven years of experience with construction project management with two years in a supervisory capacity. Bilingual: English-Spanish.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of construction and site development activities from design to implementation and evaluation. Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction plans. Demonstrated knowledge of construction project plan requirements, cost estimating, building/site codes and standards, and inspection techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of financial procedures to maintain project cost control.

Essential Job Functions:
Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages construction projects to ensure compliance with district goals, project objectives, and contractual provisions.
  • Works with contractors to ensure a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of project following a logical pattern for utilization of resources.
  • Conducts reviews of construction work to ensure conformance to contract design documents and specifications related to procedures, workmanship, and materials.
  • Coordinates work of subcontractors working on various phases of the project and is involved in the selection of those subcontractors.
  • Identifies potential construction problems and may provide on-the-spot direction for a solution to these problems.
  • Oversees performance of all trade contractors and reviews architectural and engineering drawings to make sure that all specifications and regulations are being followed.
  • Obtains necessary permits and licenses in a timely fashion.
  • Tracks and controls construction schedule and costs to achieve completion of projects within time and monies allocated.
  • Maintains detailed records of projects in a shared file to include but not limited to drawings, expenditures, submittals, schedules, etc.
  • Reports to Operations Office and public about progress and any necessary modifications of plans that seem indicated.
  • Ensures functions on site are disrupted minimally with proper planning.
  • Provides ongoing guidance and support to school throughout the course of the project.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Salary Range and Benefits:
$68,000 to $80,000 Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees that work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):
Standard office equipment and software platforms such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Google Suite. Telephone, fax, copier, computer, stamp machine, badge machine, calculator.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Regularly required to stand and move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicates verbally and electronically. Uses hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform heavy lifting up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work and travel may be required.

Environmental Conditions:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high. Occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as working near mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Travel to facilities and construction located throughout the district are integral to this job.

  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  • Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/ special application.
  • Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
