Primary Purpose:Assist the teacher in providing students with the opportunities to realize their academic potential, through the preparation and management of classroom activities while under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED
• Eligible for certification as an Aide II
• Some experience working with children
• Ability to lift 30 without assistance
• Must be Highly Qualified as described by the No Child Left Behind Act. (at least 48 college credits or have a PACT )

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist the teacher with individual students in all curricular areas. The assistance may be individual, small or large groups.

• Assist the teacher with instructional materials, gathering assignments, disseminating materials to other instructional staff when necessary.

• Be familiar with and able to use curriculum and other related materials to assist student progress.

• Assist the teacher in screening and informal assessement.

• Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom and materials for instruction.

• Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

• Reinforce building, classroom, and/or individual behavior plans.

• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.

• Collect, mark and file records as directed in assisting students and teachers.

• Assist in inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.

• Attend team meetings and assist with communications between mainstream teachers and other special education staff.

• Provide assistance in an environment other than the designated supervising teacher’s classroom, as needed.

• Understand the individual differences and needs of students.

• Provide assistance to students with disabilities as assigned by the teacher, principal, Director of Special Education or Such assistance may include, but is not limited to feeding, toileting, diapering, mobility, writing, and dressing

• Participate in in-service training programs provided by the local district.

• Assist in some situations with students who display aggressive behaviors when needed.

• Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.

• Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.

• Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.

• Support and follow administrative and Board policy.

• Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.

• Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

But not limited to the following: augmentative communication devices, wheelchair lift and ramps, audiovisual equipment, computer, copier, typewriter.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress; Frequent standing; stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students; Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

Terms of Employment:

Work year established by the Board; salary according to current schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
