Santa Clara University is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near Santa Clara, CA

Position Title: Athletic Trainer
Position Type: Fixed Term (Fixed Term)
Salary Range:
$20.54 - $22.72 per hour (commensurate with experience)
Pay Frequency: Hourly
A. POSITION PURPOSE
The Athletic Trainer is a functional support position within the Athletic Department. This person is responsible for assisting in the developing, coordinating, and administering of all aspects of a Division I sports medicine program that serves approximately 425 intercollegiate student athletes. The person in this position is responsible for abiding by all WCC and NCAA regulations and assisting to ensure departmental compliance.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries
Represent Santa Clara University as the certified athletic trainer at home and away events for assigned sports, and any other events or teams that may need to be covered.
Work closely with appropriate medical personnel who provide medical care and treatment of athletic related injuries. Create injury management plans that may include, but is not limited to: doctor visits, x-rays/scans, medical exams/studies, rehabilitation programs, and/or surgery for injured student-athletes.
Act as onsite emergency care representative at team practices and games.
Maintain timely communication regarding student athlete status between coaches, sports performance, physicians and administration.
Maintain compliance with respective injury reports, medical records, medical clearances, and sports medicine policy, procedure, & protocols.
Assist in pre-season physicals. Ensure compliance with all required documents for student-athlete clearance and participation.
Work in conjunction with sports performance staff and registered dieticians to ensure safety in the successful implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs for student athletes.
Maintain required documentation and forms for billing and processing insurance claims. Work in conjunction with the designated Insurance Coordinator to complete any necessary requirements for insurance processing.
2. Sport Medicines Services Coordinator
(incumbent will coordinate one of the following)
a. Insurance Coordinator
This includes, but is not limited to: approve claim forms, approve incoming bills, manage contracts, assist in annual insurance renewal meetings, serve as a liaison to insurance administrators.
b. Physician Clinic Coordinator
This includes, but is not limited to: schedule team physician clinics on campus, communicate with team physicians, attend student-athlete appointments, manage documentation required for physician appointments.
c. Education Coordinator
This includes, but is not limited to: serve as the primary preceptor for students from programs that have affiliate clinical site agreements with SCU, coordinate student schedule and learning program, complete all required evaluations and proficiencies.
d. Physicals Coordinator
This includes, but is not limited to: serve as the primary contact for student-athlete physicals, coordinate the delivery and receipt of all required paperwork to student-athletes and clinicians, serve as a liaison to all stakeholders involved in annual physicals, input required information and documentation in to respective student-athlete medical charts.
e. Medical Records Coordinator
This includes, but is not limited to: input required information and documentation in to respective student-athlete medical charts, fulfill requests from former student-athletes requesting medical records, manage the appropriate disposal of old medical records per state and federal law.
3. Assist in the Administration of the Sports Medicine Unit
Assist in the coordination and scheduling of required coverage (i.e. ambulance, physician, etc.) for athletic events.
Assist in the completion of all required insurance documentation and processing.
Assist in NCAA drug testing requirements.
Assist in the maintenance of all sports medicine inventories.
Assist in the recruitment, supervision, and clinical instruction of Santa Clara University student first-aid responders and student volunteer program.
Serve as a preceptor for students from accredited affiliate programs.
Other administrative duties as assigned.
4. Other Duties as Assigned
Attend continuing education symposiums as required to maintain BOC certification.
C. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION
Provides work direction to athletic training students and/or student assistants.
D. GENERAL GUIDELINES
Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.
Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.
Maintains contact with student-athletes and solicits feedback for improved services.
Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives.
Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.
E. QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.
This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
1. Knowledge
BOC, CPR and AED certification required.
Knowledge of FERPA, OSHA, and HIPPA bylaws.
Familiarity of NCAA governing rules preferred.
2. Skills
Basic computer skills required.
3. Abilities
Ability to provide accurate, timely and courteous service.
Ability to evaluate, recognize, manage and treat athletic injuries.
Experience creating and implementing athletic rehabilitation programs.
4. Education
Bachelor's degree from accredited athletic training education program required.
Master's degree with advanced degree in related field preferred.
5. Years of Experience
2-5 years of relative experience preferred.
Previous experience working in sports medicine with a Division I program preferred.
