A. POSITION PURPOSE
Using best practice research methodologies and data-driven intelligence to guide strategy, the Prospect Management and Analytics (PMA) team supports the Office of Development and the SCU campus by ensuring that development officers are engaged in the most value-added activities and prospects receive the attention they need. From portfolio development and optimization to personalized research providing critical contextual information for development officers, the PMA team seeks to strengthen the prospect pipeline and ensure the university's fundraising goals have a high probability of being achieved. The team collaborates with colleagues across the campus to provide the timeliest and most accurate prospect information available.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Prospect Management and Analytics, the Associate Director will act as the liaison to the SCU's reunion giving, donor engagement and annual giving teams as well as other programs as needed. The Associate Director works closely with PMA colleagues and development officers in implementing prospect identification and qualification programs and provides a wide range of prospect research and management activities to support the campus fundraising goals and objectives. The Associate Director is also responsible for providing reliable and timely qualitative and quantitative data and trend analysis, supporting the strategic and tactical planning and operational effectiveness of the university's fundraising.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with the donor engagement teams to keep opportunities, demographic information and portfolios updated.
Work with the reunion team to wealth screen and update demographic information on alumni celebrating reunions.
Develop policy, procedures and timelines for the reunion, donor engagement and annual fund teams to streamline and optimize those programs.
Coordinate proactive use of the CLARA (CRM) database to support moves management, including moves tracking, opportunity tracking and task management.
Identify new prospects by keeping abreast of local, national and/or international news and industry trends, as well as collaborating with internal colleagues across the university. Develop and hone techniques for prospect identification, tracking and documentation.
Assign prospect ratings based on known indicators of wealth and philanthropic giving capacity.
Respond in a timely manner to all research inquiries which may include financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, business and professional affiliations, areas of interest and other universityaffiliations.
Interpret and analyze biographical and financial information on individuals and where appropriate, corporations and foundations, based on fundraising strategies and objectives.
In addition to "client" relationships with fundraisers, the Associate Director may also have liaison relationships on behalf of the research team with various departments internal and external to the development office.
Analyze giving history of different constituencies to identify giving patterns and better target printed and electronic appeals.
Analyze giving results at the end of each giving cycle both at the macro level (giving to SCU as a whole), and at the micro level (giving to each campus area).
Generate and analyze broad data sets, search for explanations and underlying causes to help draw conclusions and develop actionable recommendations.

Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.
E. QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.
1. Knowledge
Record of accomplishments, which demonstrates initiative, creativity and effectiveness.
Knowledge of fundraising and proven experience in producing, analyzing, and interpreting data to drive fundraising strategies.
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in research and prospect management, with specific experience in research techniques, prospect management strategies, process analysis and business analytics including expertise in modeling and data analysis. Proficiency in conceptualizing and implementing prospect identification, research/profiling, and relationship management methodologies to support organizational goals.
Proficiency with the evaluation of gift capacity through standard wealth assessment formulas and with systems of ranking and prioritizing prospects based on giving capacity, interest and readiness. Experience with turning wealth assessment information into intelligence with direct usefulness for frontline fundraisers, prospect strategies or solicitation plans.
Experience developing predictive and segmentation data models desired.
Candidates with skills, interest or experience performing data analysis and predictive modeling using Power Bi, Tableau, R, Python or SPSS are preferred but it is not required for consideration.
Understanding of advancement information systems including software and business best practices.
Understanding and appreciation of the mission of Santa Clara University and the vision and values of a Jesuit Catholic educational institution.

Proficiency in using fundraising (CRM) database. Proficiency and experience in Microsoft Office products, spreadsheets (including advanced Excel functions), Google products (i.e. Google docs, Gmail, etc.), and an ability and willingness to learn new software if needed.
Proficiency in developing Power Bi reports a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
3. Abilities
Demonstrated research abilities and an understanding of the role of prospect research and management in the fundraising process.
Demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively, discretion and ability to manage sensitive information appropriately. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.
Ability to work independently and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative workingrelationships.
Ability to manage complex issues, solve problems creatively and effectively, and work under tight and shifting deadlines.
Understanding of academic fundraising and ability to formulate productive partnerships with fundraisers, other SCU colleagues and external constituencies.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to communicate with technical staff, non-technical staff and a demonstrated understanding of data analysis.
4. Education
Bachelor's degree required.
5. Years of Experience
Minimum three years of experience, preferably in the research and prospect management/development field or in an institution of higher education.
