Responsible for ensuring environment operations are within regulatory operating permits. Assures adherence to standard operating procedures by following guidelines, meeting requirements and carrying out instructions from supervisory and management personnel.

Assists in the development and implementation of environmental projects, procedures and programs, and provides oversight of environmental control systems.

Functions :

  • Monitor and maintain Air Quality Abatement and Waste Water Handling Systems
  • Monitor facility Waste Water Handling Systems and troubleshooting; Monitor, rectify and feedback any potential upstream issues or activities that may negatively impact the air and water systems;
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) functions on equipment; Keep environmental equipment and immediate areas clean and well maintained;
  • Troubleshoot, perform minor repairs or coordinate repairs on the equipment; Maintain awareness, seek novel ways to improve responsibilities and also communicate opportunities to improve air and water systems;

Troubleshoot equipment deviations in waste water and air abatement systems.

  • Compliance : complete, collect and maintain (as applicable) samples, equipment, compliance documentation and spreadsheets on a stipulated basis;
  • Audit site and maintain inventories for site’s spill kits on a monthly basis; Monitor inventories, maintain and re-order bulk chemicals and related totes;

Conduct and document weekly audits of waste inventories (laboratory, universal, fluorescent, electrical, etc.); Record waste water discharges and freshwater usage, and maintain written records on a daily and monthly basis respectively.

Partnering with Stakeholders

  • As part of daily plant walkthrough, build contact relationship with fellow colleagues whilst monitoring potential environmental aspects;
  • Create and manage work orders using maintenance management system; Support environmental equipment and product trials; Support the odor drive and troubleshoot related problems at the plant;
  • Maintain performance of monitoring equipment by partnering with contractors for calibrations and the site QA Laboratory, as applicable;

Supervise external contractor visits for environmental matters by providing safety orientation and supervision on-site, as needed.

Aim to acquire State Waste Water Plant Level II Certifications or equivalent within 4 years; Keep up certification as required by the State;

Increase professional and technical knowledge and leadership skills through self-development and

research.

Performance mesurements :

  • Speed, dexterity and degree of mechanical ability;
  • Resourcefulness in abilities to troubleshoot and research;
  • Fulfilling deadlines for document collections, spreadsheet entries, inspections & audits completions;
  • Optimal performance of air abatement equipment within operational set points.
  • Following procedures whilst working and in optimizing environmental responsibilities.
  • Working to acquire State Waste Water Plant II Certification or equivalent within 4 years.

Qualifications :

  • Technical college qualification with environmental emphasis.
  • Basic Mechanical, Electrical, Computer skills, proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills. Basic mechanical aptitude. Basic knowledge of chemical hazards, pumps and wet scrubbing systems.

Genuine environmental interest.

Must be able to manipulate office and plant equipment.
