Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa is looking for a Director of Operations. This position directly reports to the Resort General Manager and manages the overall daily operations of the resort. 
The ideal candidate for this position
  • A bachelor's degree in the field and/or 4 or more years of experience in a similar leadership position. 
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Stays organized and pay attention to details
  • Spanish and/or Creole language knowledge is a bonus but not required
  • Comfortable working in a high pace environment with ever-changing business demands
  • Strong knowledge or availability to learn computer programs such as Microsoft Office, PMS, Micros, Marsha, etc 
  • Previous Marriott Brand knowledge is a plus but not required. 
  • Previous room division knowledge is required and food and beverage knowledge is a plus
  • Strong negotiation skills, basic construction, electronics as well as air conditioning knowledge are plus with strong mathematical skills. 
  • Must have a work permit or authorization to work in the USA.
  • Having experience in a similar position, preferably in a luxury setting not required but helpful.
  • A flexible schedule is required, including weekends and holidays.
  • Able to work together with other colleagues.
  • Work in a safe, prudent, and organized manner.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Able to consistently delight and satisfy our guests.
  • Able to handle guest and employee requests in a detailed manner.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry 50 pounds plus.
  • Must be able to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time.
What you will be doing
  • Manage and oversee the daily resort operations such as Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, Recreation, and Spa with basic Food and Beverage Operations.
  • Evaluate operations and needs to maximize revenue and minimize the cost while ensuring maximum Guest Satisfaction
  • Follow brand standards to make sure all resort operates according to the Marriott and Columbia Sussex brand standards and policies. 
  • Complete a property Quality Assurance and franchise review semi-quarterly
  • Create necessary daily/weekly/monthly financial reports and make sure of the accuracy of any night audit reports. Know at all times where the resort and departments stand against the budget.
  • Assist in developing and implementing effective sales and marketing strategies
  • Promote the resort's policies and philosophies to employees and guests through direct and indirect interaction
  • Ensure employee and guest satisfaction. Respond to any employee or guest request as quickly as possible
  • Control Rooms Division and Food and Beverage Divisions inventories
  • Control and inspect any construction projects, ordering, or preventative maintenance projects.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations with the county, state, and country by completing the necessary inspection in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the resort is in compliance with all federal state and local laws including OSHA EEOC Wage Hour and Health laws
  • Follow and Communicate policies and procedures with subordinates
  • Oversee Human Resources, hiring, developing, disciplining, and setting bi-annual J-1 training programs for Rooms and F&B departments. 
  • Oversee J-1 training housing and needs
  • Find and communicate with vendors while getting quotes for the projects and ensuring accurate billing/invoicing 
  • Conduct, weekly/monthly department meetings
  • Ensure the responsibilities and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood
  • Act as General Manager in the absence of the General Manager
  • Implement new and current programs which meet corporate goals and objectives
  • Provide a professional and friendly image at all times through appearance, verbal communication, body language, and dress
  • Ensure the total cleanliness of the public areas, rooms, and back of the areas at all times.
  • This position requires flexible schedules, such as holidays, weekends, and nights.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management
