Job Title: Peer Support Specialists

LOCATION: Ventura, CA

Hours of Operation: · Monday to Friday: 0800-1700 (with a daily break of 60 minutes)· Saturday: 0900-1300· Total of 44 hours per week, with flexibility for emergent situations

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Peer Support Specialist or similar role, preferably working with underserved populations and in crisis intervention.2. Lived experience with mental illness and/or substance use recovery preferred.3. Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or willingness to obtain certification within the probationary period.4. Bicultural and bilingual proficiency, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities, particularly Hispanic/Latinx populations and monolingual Spanish speakers.5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients.6. Knowledge of community resources and services related to mental health, housing, and social support.7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.8. Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation, with a clean driving record.9. Flexibility to work a schedule that may include evenings and weekends as needed.10. Commitment to cultural competence, patient-centered care, and the principles of recovery and resilience.11. Ability to pass background checks and screenings required for employment in the behavioral health field.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide peer support services to individuals in crisis or in need of mental health services, focusing on empowerment, recovery, and resilience.2. Engage with clients in the community, including at pop-up clinics and outreach events, to establish trust and rapport.3. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver rapid and flexible mental health interventions, screenings, and support services.4. Assist clients in accessing resources and navigating the mental health system, including referrals to appropriate services and agencies.5. Participate in crisis response activities, including de-escalation techniques and providing emotional support to individuals in distress.6. Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, assessments, and services provided in VCBH's Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR).7. Attend regular meetings with VCBH staff to review progress, address challenges, and provide updates on program activities.8. Conduct outreach and engagement activities in the community, including organizing and participating in events to promote mental health awareness and education.9. Collaborate with county agencies, community partners, and stakeholders to ensure coordinated care and support for clients.10. Adhere to administrative requirements, including tracking and reporting program activities, completing metrics, and maintaining good working relationships with partners and stakeholders.
