Job Title: Dental Hygienist.
Location: The Minneapolis VA Health Care System, One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
Schedule: Full-time. Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Job Overview:
The Dental Hygienist position involves providing comprehensive dental hygiene care to patients in a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. The role encompasses various responsibilities, including clinical care, patient education, dental imaging, infection control, and clerical functions. The Dental Hygienist ensures that the standard of care meets or exceeds currently recognized national standards.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide clinical dental hygienist services, such as setting up the operatory for dental procedures, safely and efficiently handling instruments, performing routine oral prophylactic care, cleaning dental prostheses, and managing the dental recall system.
Offer appropriate patient education tailored to their oral condition, providing oral health care instruction to inpatients, outpatients, and caregivers.
Perform dental imaging with diagnostic quality and accurate orientation, utilizing dental imaging safety techniques and minimizing retakes.
Follow infection control and equipment sterilization procedures, including proper cleaning, preparation, and sterilization of instruments, and demonstrate infection control during imaging. Assist patients in scheduling appointments, fill gaps in the schedule, chart findings and treatment plans, and maintain patient confidentiality and information management.
Qualifications:
Candidate shall be Board Certified by the American Dental Association (ADA), and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency from an American Heart Association (AHA) course. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)/ Certified Education Unit (CEU) Requirements: Candidate shall provide copies of current CMEs as required or requested by the VA facility. Candidates registered or certified by national/medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for CME to remain current.

Candidate shall provide malpractice and medical liability insurance certificates. At least one year of specialized experience in the field related to the position of Dental Hygienist. Demonstrated technical proficiency in dental hygiene skills required to fulfill the government's requirements, including deep scaling, curettage, root planning procedures, application of fluoride solutions, dental imaging, infection control, and proper use of dental instruments.

Fluent in spoken, written, and understanding of English.

Adherence to medical staff by-laws, rules, and regulations governing medical staff behavior.

Possession of appropriate National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy Code confirmation notice issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES).
