Job Description:

The chemist's job is conducting chemical analyses of hazardous waste materials, managing inventory and packaging, preparing shipment paperwork, and providing expertise in chemical compatibility, also assist in identifying unknown chemicals, addressing regulatory inquiries, and coordinating spill clean-up activities.

Description of the services:

providing hazardous waste clean-up, testing, removal, and disposal services in WASHINGTON (Maryland). This includes removing universal waste like lightbulbs and batteries, handling miscellaneous chemicals, managing compressed gas cylinders, cleaning up biohazard waste, and responding to hazardous waste spills. Tasks may range from routine cleanouts to emergency spill response, all aimed at maintaining a safe working environment for employees and visitors.

Responsibilities:

· Manage chemical inventories, including tracking quantities, monitoring expiration dates, and conducting periodic audits.

· Prepare and review shipment paperwork for hazardous materials.

· Package hazardous waste and chemical products safely and securely for transportation.

· Provide accurate quotes for chemical products and services, considering factors such as quantity and shipping requirements.

· Assist in answering regulatory inquiries and providing guidance on chemical storage, disposal, and handling practices.

· Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to coordinate chemical shipments, resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery.

· Conduct training sessions or workshops on chemical safety, handling procedures, and regulatory compliance for staff members.

· Assist in the identification and characterization of unknown substances using appropriate analytical techniques and instrumentation.

· Stay updated on changes in regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and emerging technologies related to chemical management and safety.

· Participate in emergency response drills and procedures, including spill containment and cleanup efforts, as needed.
Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or Biology from an accredited university.

· Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience working with chemical compatibility and familiarity with DOT and EPA RCRA requirements for handling and shipping hazardous waste.

· Strong understanding of chemical inventory management, including tracking, organizing, and maintaining accurate records.

· Proficient in preparing shipment paperwork, packaging hazardous materials safely, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

· Knowledgeable about chemical storage and disposal procedures, including proper labeling, storage conditions, and waste disposal methods.

· Ability to provide accurate quotes for chemical products and services.

· Familiarity with regulatory guidelines for chemical handling and transportation, including safety data sheets (SDS), labeling requirements, and emergency response protocols.

· Skilled in identifying unknown substances and conducting appropriate tests or analyses for characterization.
