We are looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join our team! Our organization specializes in developing operational monitoring systems to support the U.S. and international nuclear monitoring and non-proliferation mission. As a Systems Engineer, you will work alongside our team of subsystem Systems Engineers to develop software feature development, machine learning, analytics, algorithm development, and data analysis. Our ideal candidate is highly experienced in requirements management, technical system engineering, platform/software/security architectures, agile frameworks, and product delivery to site.

On any given day, the selected candidate may be asked to:

  • Support a team of systems engineers on efforts related to requirements engineering, system architecture and design, system integration and testing, and test data analysis as well as deliverables associated with each major programmatic milestone.

  • Support system-level performance characterization, requirements verification, and system performance reporting through engineering and test activities.

  • Provide leadership with work breakdown estimates, execution status, and status of risk mitigation activities.

  • Collaborate with the Program Office, Mission, and system-level partners as well and those responsible for developing, testing, and implementing the system and its elements.

  • Work with the various subsystem and competency teams to verify complex requirements, often from a combination of analysis and simulated environmental testing.

    This position will be based onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Relocation to the Albuquerque area is required.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant technical field such as System Engineering, Management of Information Systems, Computer Science, plus 5 years related experience; OR advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in relevant technical field plus 3 years related experience.

  • Background includes three or more years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Performing systems engineering and technical analysis.

  • Generating system requirements, interface definitions, verification and validation activities, and project documentation.

  • Test planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting.

  • Use of Hybrid/Agile software development methodologies and Agile tools (i.e. Rally, Jira, Gitlab).

  • Working with a requirements management tool (i.e. IBM DOORS Rational).

  • Reporting and briefing to external and internal stakeholders.

  • Two or more years of experience in full product lifecycle development.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Knowledge of systems engineering development tools, techniques, and management

  • Ability to partner with team members and technically direct the efforts of a cross-disciplinary team

  • Ability to review and understand end-to-end system engineering processes

  • Experience with large, multi-organizational, multi-discipline projects with emphasis on satellite or other aerospace systems

  • Experience in design development, production, and operation of satellite ground systems

  • Familiarity with ground systems, development, and operations

  • Experience with Linux systems and environment

  • Experience working with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as GENESYS or MagicDraw

  • Desire to understand the system as a whole and anticipate system interactions

  • Passion for mission function and performance

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments with a dynamic team

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify creative solutions.

  • Active DOE clearance

We are part of a multi-disciplinary team that architects, develops, integrates, tests, and deploys next generation satellite ground systems. Using our extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of mission and domain-specific science and technology, we research and develop innovative high-rigor solutions that result in extremely reliable systems, critical for the missions and customers we serve. Our team has significant expertise across many computer science and computer system subject areas. Our capabilities include computer platform architectures, continuous integration, system verification, performance assessment, and system integration.

Security Clearance:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
