What Your Job Will Be Like Sandia California's Bioresource and Environmental Security department is seeking a hardworking and dedicated Postdoctoral Scientist with expertise in microbiology, phycology, or oceanography to address challenges associated with developing and using microbial consortia in algal co-cultures and novel bioprocessing concepts, such as arrested methanogensis in other microbial consortia. On any given day, the selected applicant may be called on to: * Work with a multi-disciplinary team to work on the design, execution, and implementation of approaches to better understand and deploy solutions in algal biotechnology for addressing challenges in energy and environmental security * Use your experience in microbial ecology and characterizing microbiomes through use of advanced DNA sequencing methodology, with familiarity with computational analysis of sequencing data sets Qualifications We Require * PhD in microbiology, phycology, oceanography, or a closely related field * Experience in the characterization of microbial consortia, e.g., through methods such as second-generation DNA sequencing and its associated computational data analysis * Record of strong technical contributions and excellent verbal and written communication skills, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations Qualifications We Desire * Past research completed under set timelines and ability to reach goals * Experience in microalgae cultivation and bioreactor operation About Our Team The Bioresource and Environmental Security department is located within the Applied Biosciences and Engineering group and develops and applies biotechnological solutions towards important challenges related to energy and the environment. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. All MOWs may appeal the unfavorable UPIV determination to DOE/NNSA immediately. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the MOW may try to go through the UPIV process one year after the decision date. Position Information This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.
