Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instruct classes within the landscape gardening program discipline and provide effective, high-quality, industry relevant instruction in accordance with the published course curriculum in the Landscape Gardening Program, with instruction in the classroom and laboratory. Classes may include Arboriculture Practices, Greenhouse Management, Landscape Design, Landscape Construction, Horticulture Pest Management among others.
Maintain appropriate laboratory equipment and supplies and have, or develop, the ability to operate relevant industry equipment within the department. (Including greenhouses, nursery and outdoor areas occasionally requiring weekend and holiday maintenance.
Maintain accurate academic records of students enrolled in classes and submit reports as required.
Respond to emails and other communication from students, colleagues, department chair, Deans, VPs, and President in a timely and professional fashion.
Support student learning outside of class by participating in and supporting department initiatives.
Provide support for faculty members in the landscape gardening program area.
Participate in annual professional development activities.
Advise students in the program.
Maintain positive and professional interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration at the college.
Supports open expression and diversity and is sensitive and respectful to others. Respects the confidentiality of information shared during interactions. Discourages any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and/or campus visitors.
Promotes a culture of excellence and caring for faculty and students. Develops professional relationships and shows courtesy and respect while working with colleagues, potential donors, alumni, advisees, prospective and current students, and communities of interest.
Assist the Coordinator as they maintain the program of study per the North Carolina Community College curriculum standards, prepare class schedules, prepare an annual program summary report and review, and utilize an advisory committee for the program.
Lead and participate in department enrollment, support and engagement initiatives as directed by the Department Chair.
Have the appropriate academic credentials to teach at the program level.
An Associate degree in Landscape Gardening or a related field is required, a bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
Possess, or have the ability to obtain, industry recognized credentials (ex. North Carolina Pesticide License, Certified Plant Professional, Registered Landscape Contractor, Certified Arborist, etc.).
Possess a strong commitment to the mission of community colleges.
Have excellent written, oral communication, and organizational skills.
Have an appreciation of the value of colleagueship.
