Evaluation: Annually 

Status: Non-Exempt

Contract: 180 days, 7.0 hours

Qualifications: A High School Graduate or Associate's Degree and one year of previous clerical or school district attendance experience are desired. CPR and additional certification training are possible.

Job Description: Attendance Clerk/ParaProfessional Position—This position will have fluid work-related duties, including tracking and reporting student attendance, but it will also consist of various other job responsibilities throughout the day. 
Function: Under the direction of the principal or their designee, the principal is responsible for monitoring, recording, typing, and qualifying all student absences and tardiness and performing other related tasks.
Work Performed:
  • Maintains daily and class period attendance of all students.
  • Enters, prints, and emails daily absentee bulletin to all classes for use in monitoring class absenteeism
  • Issues excused and unexcused full-day and half-day absences 
  • Calls student homes to verify unreasonable absenteeism and communicate with parent(s) or guardian(s) regarding absenteeism, sickness, and District policy. Or ensures the student absentee system contacts parents. 
  • Reports to Principals regarding cases requiring disciplinary or other action.
  • Monitors student illnesses of a contagious nature
  • Enters all correspondence relating to student attendance and referrals
  • Compiles data regarding absenteeism 
  • Reviews daily records of absenteeism against class records
  • Cross-checks daily and class records for errors of students unreported, late, or class skips
  • Notifies the principal of variances in the daily attendance.
  • Maintains student attendance in the Infinite Campus system.
  • Supervises and records hours of student aides in the Attendance Office
  • Maintains other student records of the nature of unique and titled education programs.
  • Verifies student eligibility
  • Sets up and schedules programs, classes, and training sessions
  • Records and summarizes all required reports
  • Assists school administrative assistants, clerks, or others as required in office duties and reception.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of assignment and program development schedules.
  • Other duties as assigned

Employees must be able to sit up to 65% of the day, file, and walk (including stairs). 
Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 15 pounds
Hazards: lifting (30 lbs)
Comments: Prefer comprehensive knowledge of laws regarding attendance. Must be able to interrogate and discern student attempts to violate laws and policies regarding attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned.
  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g., instructional technology)
