The Position:
The Program Specialist (International Education) performs professional work involved with planning, coordinating, and implementing the District's International Student Program. Under direction from the Director of International Education, the Program Specialist is responsible for and/or assists with recruitment, program development, planning, logistical operations, reporting, and documentation of international education and services for the District.
Public contact is extensive and includes staff, students, international students, domestic and international educational institutions, business and community representatives and leaders, campus visitors, and the general public. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to adequately represent the District, serve as a technical resource person for the program to design original program components and services, and resolve minor and major problems that arise. Consequences of errors in judgment could be costly in employee time, public relations, and money; however, administrative and policy controls limit the risk of serious consequences. The Program Specialist can supervise the work of paraprofessional, clerical, other staff, and student assistants as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.   • Exchanges information with students, staff, other educational institutions, educational partners, community and business representatives, vendors, governmental agencies and the general public regarding a variety of District international programs, services, eligibility requirements, policies, timelines, required forms, and other information
  • As directed, schedules and participates in on-campus meetings regarding international education
  • Assists with the coordination and implementation of the District International Homestay Referral Program, International Scholarship Program, and other programs as needed
  • Plans and coordinates presentations to small and large groups as needed
  • Drives a motor vehicle to attend off-site meetings, workshops, and other events to obtain current information
  • Plans, conducts and participates in program services in conjunction with District international program management, and college international program staff
  • Plans joint events with District and college international programs and with outside business and community representatives
  • Uses a variety of computer software to set up and maintain demographic, statistical, and other data related to student enrollment, retention, and follow-up
  • Assists with processing business expense reports for international program staff
  • Researches, compiles data for, formats and prepares special and regular reports and presentations. Confers with international education management and other staff to develop and implement needs assessments and other studies and surveys for international education
  • Manages District international marketing programs and online presence, including obtaining testimonials from current international students, and assists in developing marketing media for international outreach
  • Plans and coordinates lay-out, graphics, photography and other artwork, editing, printing, multimedia enhancements, web page information, distribution, and other services in conjunction with other staff, students and/or vendors as appropriate
  • Uses a variety of computer software to compose and prepare correspondence, reports, publicity materials, surveys, brochures, flyers, bulletins, reports, presentations, and other materials
  • Plans and implements international student surveys
  • Assists in representing the Districts colleges to prospective students, parents, counselors, and the general public on campus and in the local community
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of the Districts international education website
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in business administration, sociology, human resources, or a closely related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successful experience of increasing responsibility in education, social services, human resources, or related area
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
  • Experience with program planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Skill in researching, compiling data for, and preparing a variety of reports
  • Experience with basic accounting procedures
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, including public speaking
  • Skill in the use of a variety of computer software to compose and prepare data analysis, reports, summaries, correspondence, and other materials
  • Demonstrated skill in working as part of a small team with a broad range of responsibilities
  • Possession of a California Drivers license (or the ability to obtain one) and the ability to drive a motor vehicle to off-campus locations
  • Experience with event planning and coordination

Benefits:
Benefits include paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. The District pays all or a portion of monthly medical plan premiums (depending on the coverage) and pays all of the monthly dental and vision plan premiums for employees and eligible dependents. Classified employees participate in the Public Employees Retirement System, a defined-benefit retirement plan through the State of California.
