JOB TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of

Special Education

DEPT. /SCHOOL: Campus Assigned DATE REVISED: April 2020

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Plan and provide therapy to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Master’s Degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas license as a speech language pathologist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Skill in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders

Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders

Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Consultation skills

Minimum Experience:

One year of supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Assess students with speech or language disorders and determine eligibility for services.
  1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
  1. Prepare and participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with speech and/or language disorders according to district procedures.
  1. Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
  1. Complete Medicaid Forms and return to Special Education PEIMS Clerk as indicated by the calendar.
  1. Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in the identification and understanding of students with communication deficits.
  1. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records and other documents required within timelines and due dates.
  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
  1. Facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings.
  1. After the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meeting distribute accommodations to the teachers who will be responsible for implementing the accommodations, maintain students’ campus folder; and monitor the implementation of the IEP, including progress monitoring.
  1. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  1. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of school district.
  1. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  1. Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
  1. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the speech therapy program and implement changes based on the findings.
  1. Assist in the selection of materials, equipment and other instructional material.
  1. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  1. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
  1. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of speech therapy to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  1. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet the identified needs as related to speech-language.
  1. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or Principal.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to manage multiple priorities and to work at multiple sites.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Regular district-wide travel; may work at multiple sites; moderate lifting and carrying; pushing wheelchair; positioning students; may have biological exposure to communicable diseases.

School district employees may be required to work from home and use their personal electronic devices.
