PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Follow District cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a set standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations. Provide direction for and assist in the supervision of custodians assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Ability to use personal computer
Ability to manage personnel
Knowledge of cleaning procedures and use of cleaning equipment
Knowledge of basic techniques of minor building repairs
Knowledge of basic budget maintenance
Effective planning and organizational skills
Minimum Experience:
Three years custodial or related experience preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist with orientation and training of custodial employees.
- Assist with the supervision of custodial employees including, but not limited to, daily visual and periodic written inspections of work assignments.
- Communicate with the building management regarding facilities calendar of events and provide custodial support.
- Review periodically employee performance with Associate Director of Custodial Services.
- Perform annual appraisals of custodial staff at assigned campus.
- Assist with the maintenance of employee records.
- Responsible for answering residence/cell phone at all hours in order to handle emergencies or special duties as required.
- Report emergencies or injuries to Associate Director of Custodial Services immediately.
- Ensure that all areas are maintained clean to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
- Be responsible for efficient cleaning of assigned areas within the allotted time. Cleaning assignments may include but not be limited to: floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, restrooms, buildings, grounds, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play grounds.
- Properly train campus custodial staff for locking and locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
- Follow procedures for regulating heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Ensure all campus custodial staff follows all safety instructions and procedures.
- Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
- Report any observed safety hazards to Associate Director of Custodial Services.
- Comply with district procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.
- Complete work order requests as needed for building and equipment repairs to Maintenance Department or Associate Director of Custodial Services.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency prior to use and report any problems to Associate Director for Custodial Services or submit work order request.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned and properly stored after use.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed.
- Maintain and monitor custodial supply budget.
- Work assigned schedules which are subject to change. Schedules may include day, night, weekends, and/or holidays. Assignments may include any locations in the district.
- Provide training on the proper operation and care of all tools and equipment.
- Attend training sessions and implement procedures taught.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all time.
- Follow district policy concerning uniforms.
- Be courteous and professional in dealing with others.
- Comply with school district policies and procedures.
- Must be able to perform all responsibilities and duties of the job.
- Perform other minor duties as assigned by supervisor which may include but are not limited to: maintenance of building, moving and/or assembling furniture, loading/unloading and distribution of supplies and equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Tools/ Equipment: mops (wet or dry), brooms, shampoo machines, buffers, auto scrubbers, strippers, carpet vacuum, wet/dry vacuum, leaf blower, small hand and power tools, & ladders
Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate (oral and written). Work well alone and/or with others. Emotional control. Ability to supervise others. Organizational skills.
Physical Demands:
Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and carrying; work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders; work day, night, weekend, and/or holiday hours; work at different district locations as assigned.
