JOB TITLE: Childcare Provider/Aide WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator for School Age Pregnant and Parenting Program

DEPT. /SCHOOL: Child Development Center DATE REVISED: June 2020

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To operate a licensed daycare center classroom (0-5 yrs.) To provide a safe, nurturing, stimulating, and positive learning environment. To provide developmentally age-appropriate activities. To foster independence and self-worth in the children.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED

Paraprofessional Certification

CPR/FA/AED Current Certified including pediatric

48 College Credit Hours or State Approved Paraprofessional Certification preferred, Child Development Associates Credential (CDA). Met the minimum requirements of a licensed daycare center classroom provider

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of child development

Strong communications, public relations and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with and to recognize and respect uniqueness and potential of all children, their families and cultures

Experience:

Experience in a state licensed daycare center with 0-5 year old children required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  1. Keep the coordinator informed of any special needs or problems of individual students or children using the Child Development Center.
  1. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  1. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  1. Participate in staff development training programs (24 hrs.-per year required), faculty meetings, and special events, as needed. Maintaining Current CPR/FA/AED including pediatric certification. Maintain paraprofessional certification in Texas.
  1. Maintain positive interaction with other staff, students, and parents.
  1. Nurture the emotional, social, physical and intellectual growth of the children.
  1. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  1. Abide by policies and procedures of the center outlined in the SMCISD Child Development Center Staff Handbook, TDHS, and Minimum Standards.
  1. Implement developmentally appropriate, weekly, written lesson plans under the direction of supervisor.
  1. Monitor and document children’s progress on a regular basis using program approved documentation systems
  1. Conduct parent conferences at least twice a year in cooperation with coordinator.
  1. Document appropriate information: injury, illness, medications, diapers, bottles, food, naps and anything else as directed.
  1. Assist with personal hygiene of children, including changing diapers or soiled clothing as needed.
  1. Protect the health and safety of the children by:
  • -maintaining a clean room
  • -washing town hands frequently and seeing that children wash their hands
  • -supervising children’s activities at all times
  • -sanitizing diaper changing area after each change (if applicable)
  1. Maintain positive, cooperative attitude and understand the need to be flexible in the child care field. Demonstrates willingness to support needs in all aspects of the day to day operation of a high-quality center.
  1. Perform opening/closing duties in the child development center. Demonstrate willingness to be flexible when needed with opening and closing duties.

  1. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by coordinator, supervisor, or student workers.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Use copier, computer, laminator, and other office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written; maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Moderate standing, stooping bending, lifting and carrying up to 35 lb.; inside and outside work; good vision acuity, speech, and hearing; biological exposure to communicable diseases, viruses, bacteria.

School district employees may be required to work from home and use their personal electronic devices. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full-time position. This position is contingent upon annual funding.
