San Joaquin Delta College is Hiring a Campus Safety Officer I (25 hours Permanent Intermittent) Near Stockton, CA

Description

To perform a variety of duties in the enforcement of laws, the protection of persons and property and the prevention of crimes within the College's jurisdiction; to ensure the safety and security of the College campus; and to provide assistance to students, faculty, and staff. A Campus Safety Officer will work on the main campus or the Mountain House campus on an assigned shift and is subject to working weekends, nights, holidays and rotating shifts with mandatory overtime. The position of Campus Safety Officer is a non-sworn position with the San Joaquin Delta College Police Department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The non sworn Campus Safety Officer differs from the sworn Campus Police Officer in that the incumbents assigned to this classification provide protection by observing and reporting unusual and suspicious activity and enforce District parking regulations and provide traffic control.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from assigned Sergeant.

Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists with public services including protection of District buildings and property and guarding against fire, intrusion, theft and vandalism.
  • Checks doors and windows for security; locks doors and turns out lights.
  • Monitors a variety of issued parking permits and verify that permits are current and valid. Reports the use of stolen permits to supervisor. Issues parking citations/sanctions and warnings, as appropriate of parking rules and regulations; prepares reports for non-injury traffic accidents and minor non-traffic injuries and illnesses.
  • Reports any apparent malfunction of pumps, electrical, and heating equipment.
  • Provides information to staff, students, and visitors.
  • Observes and reports unusual or suspicious situations.
  • Writes reports on thefts, vandalism and other related incidents.
  • Checks master calendar in order to assist in locking and unlocking doors.
  • Notifies Campus Police Dispatcher if additional assistance is needed.
  • Operates a two-way radio to communicate with college base station and other officers.
  • Testifies in court as necessary. Be a witness for the Campus Police concerning observations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of current methods and equipment used in security work;
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws and regulation including California vehicle and penal codes and campus parking rules.
Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations; make quick decisions in an emergency situation.
  • Enforce parking and related traffic ordinances.
  • Observe and report unusual occurrences and violations. Detect and prevent problems
  • Keep records and prepare reports. Prepare clear, accurate, and grammatically correct written reports.
  • Work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Meet physical requirements as established by the College.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Work cooperatively and deal with other tactfully.
  • Work in an educational environment providing security services without firearms.
  • Maintain an appropriate attitude and demeanor consistent with District philosophy.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff.
Experience and Education
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience:
One year of law enforcement experience as a police officer, military police officer, correctional officer, dispatcher, community service officer, POST academy student or graduate, police cadet, security officer, or military service required. One year of general clerical experience is desirable.
Training:
Specialized training in law enforcement, security, or a related field.
License /Certificate/Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license is required at time of appointment.
Must pass a medial and background investigation.
