In 1990, a small group of dedicated volunteers with a desire to eliminate substandard housing in our community founded San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to our supporters, more than 200 local and international families have been able to build or repair their own homes here in Los Angeles’ San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Through the years, we have maintained our unrelenting determination to help families in need by offering a hand up, not a handout. Through donations, shopping at our ReStores, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.

Pay Scale: $72,000 - $85,000

Job Summary

 As a vital member of our company, the Project Manager plays a pivotal role in the planning and execution of our construction projects. This dynamic position entails leading both staff and unskilled volunteers at various construction sites, homeowner occupied homes, and diverse job locations. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, guiding and training our teams of skilled and unskilled volunteers to ensure project success and the achievement of our organization's mission. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Create a detailed scope of work and specifications for each project, including whole-house rehabilitation projects.
  • Manage construction contracts throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to terms and conditions.
  • Create or assist in the creation of project specifications including project scope, objectives, and timelines.
  •  Implement and enforce quality control standards to ensure that construction meets or exceeds industry and organizational standards. 
  • Vet subcontractors and suppliers to ensure reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the finance department on cost coding, project contract management, and maintain required vendor documents.
  • Work closely with on-site construction staff to facilitate effective communication and coordination of project activities.
  • Develops contacts and networks to also assist ReStore donations, Volunteer Groups, and Individual Volunteers.
  • Identify and inventory donated construction materials suitable for project use.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of surplus and donated building materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist the real estate department in providing preliminary cost per square foot estimates for preconstruction and project feasibility.
  • Coordinate the purchasing of building materials and jobsite delivery in collaboration with on-site construction staff.
  • Monitor the availability of donated goods from Habitat for Humanity International and place orders as needed.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms for the procurement of materials and services.
  • Proactively identify areas for process improvement and contribute to the success of various duties and projects as needed.
  • Assist in promoting Habitat for Humanity program and raising awareness for our mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Manager

This role has oversight or accountability for others, and is not an individual contributor

Internal and ExternalHas regular contact with departments, employees, and Managers at all levels of the internal organization as well as with external organizations, banks, vendors and donors

Influence:
May influence the formulation of organizational policy, contractual obligations and employee morale

Requirements

Education

  • Building science or construction management bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

  • Team management experience a plus.
  • Hands on construction experience is preferred.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus.
  • Previous construction experience is helpful.
  • Familiarity with job cost accounting systems
  • Familiarity with estimating software ProEst, MS Project scheduling, Procore Project management system preferred. 
  • Forklift certification helpful
  • Working experience with Microsoft office including SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook

Knowledge

  • Understands the overall construction process 
  • Must understand the necessary construction materials, building trades, necessary tools and equipment within a jobsite
  • Knowledge of fair market values of home improvement items, building materials, construction materials, home furnishings, lighting, flooring, and home décor is a big plus

Working Conditions

This diversity in work environments adds a layer of excitement to the position but may also introduce some level of stress, particularly when tasks are bound by fixed deadlines.

In terms of physical requirements, the position involves prolonged periods of sitting, demanding visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for tasks involving computer keyboards. Additionally, there may be occasional involvement in loading and unloading construction materials, as well as engaging in heavy lifting activities.

The work arrangements for this role include the option to work remotely one day per week, providing a flexible dimension to the schedule. The primary office is situated in Monrovia, requiring a regular presence, while some local travel may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

The standard workweek adheres to a Monday to Friday schedule, offering a structured framework for the execution of duties. This comprehensive overview highlights the dynamic nature of the role, emphasizing the need for adaptability, physical engagement, and effective time management across varied environments and schedules.
