San Diego State University Research Foundation is Hiring a Remote KPBS Accounting Coordinator (Part-Time)

Overview

The salary range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00 per hour depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and web programming. KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio stations for San Diego. Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience. It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.

The Accounting Coordinator performs work involving some or all of the following duties: review financial documents for accuracy and completeness; make arithmetic calculations; assign routine transaction codes by referring to lists, manuals, or other reference sources.

Prepare receipts and keep record of amounts received and disbursed; gather numerical data; post financial information where the identification and location of postings are clearly indicated; and operate a personal computer and/or automated accounting systems. Incumbents may be assigned responsibility for providing instruction in operational procedures to other employees.

Responsibilities

The following information is intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents on this position and is not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similarly related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.

  • Review and process check requests for vendor invoices and staff reimbursements ensuring completeness, correct account information, proper approvals and sufficient account funds.
  • Responsible for the cash application process, ensuring customer payments are applied accurately and timely. Provide payment documentation to SDSURF for depositing.
  • Prepare journal entries within one business day of receipt to record wire receipts for vehicle donations.
  • Coordinate F&A team meetings to ensure full participation. Coordinate calendars with department’s staff.
  • Assist annually with the processing of two student awards: John F Reeves Memorial Scholarship and Student Assistant Stephen Weber award.
  • Assist with travel and conference arrangements (airfare, hotels, and registrations).
  • Work with campus Financial Aid Services (FAS) to identify students eligible for the Federal Work Study (FWS) program. Ensure allocation documents are properly maintained and processed for payroll. Track the balance of available funds and contact FAS for increased allocations, if needed.
  • Process p-card maintenance forms; add org codes to individual cards and initiate maintenance and cancellation of p cards.
  • Schedule vendor services for maintaining first-aid cabinets, copiers and document shredding services.
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of general office supplies.
  • Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, ensure the trade policy and procedures are being followed; account for trade receipt and usage; and produce and distribute the monthly trade report; reconcile the trade count monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, preparation of memos, letters, reports and presentations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience 

  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities
  • Three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities

Preferred Qualifications, knowledge, skills, & Abilities 

  • Associates Degree in accounting.
  • Computer knowledge and proficiency in PC platforms such software programs as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) 
  • Excellent writing, proofreading and communications skills.
  • A team player who can also work independently.
  • Ability to use good judgment in communications with staff at all levels within the organization.
  • A familiarity with Public Media is desired.
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Registered Notary Public.
