San Bernardino Superior Court is Hiring a TRAINING SPECIALIST Near San Bernardino, CA

The Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino is seeking well-qualified, training professionals for the position of Training Specialist.
Salary Update

  • Effective September 2022, a 5% COLA increase (not reflected in the job announcement)

About the Position
Under general direction, develops and facilitates a wide variety of technical, staff enrichment, and/or information tech­nology training programs for all levels of employees; prepares training documentation; develop training programs; provides support for outside facilitators and subject matter experts; maintains training database; monitors training completion and certifications and prepares compliance reporting; and performs related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
A Training Specialist provides staff at all levels with work-related training and development opportunities through multiple channels including classes, online resources and consultation. Incumbents assigned to this classification deliver training programs as well as research, develop and prepare training materials.
Duties and responsibilities are carried out with considerable independence within a framework of estab­lished policies and procedures.
 
Employees in this class typically report to the Training and Development Officer.
 
A Training Specialist is distinguished from a Training and Development Analyst in that an incumbent in the latter class oversees judicial education, develops training curriculum, and assists with organ­iza­tional development and succession planning in addition to facilitating classes.

  1. Conducts training needs analysis; determines training objectives and methods of instruction; develops course outlines; consults with subject-matter experts to design training; prepares lesson plans, visual aids, and handouts for use in instruction.
  2. Designs and writes court-specific training materials for staff; researches relevant laws; reviews exist­ing procedures; previews vendor instructional materials and evaluates them for use in court training programs; researches technical materials; develops job aids; writes, drafts, edits and prepares training handbooks, manuals, and related documents; prepares newsletter articles including training schedules, book reviews, and short trainings.
  3. Conducts classroom training using group discussion and facilitation, behavior modeling, and lecture methods; operates audio/visual equipment; conducts individual job instruction training sessions; trains subject-matter experts serving as trainers in formulating training materials and applying effective adult education techniques.
  4. Maintains training management database; tracks training attendance and notifies employees about mandated training requirements; updates and maintains training digital and physical library.
  5. Supports employees on personal professional development and career opportunities; maintains a department resource center for employees with information on grants, schools, classes, scholarships, funding, etc.
  6. Provides support for training programs by locating and arranging speakers/instructors, training equip­ment, and facilities; coordinates the inventory, ordering, prepackaging, and issuance of program supplies and equipment.
  7. Conducts special assignments and projects.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Graduation from an associate degree program and
  • Two (2) years of experience in designing and delivering adult training and education in an educational or corporate setting, public sector or court environment; or 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualification: Experience in a California Trial Court.
Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements
A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the court's vehicle insurance program.

  • Candidates who are successful in step 2, Review of Minimum Qualification, will be placed on the eligible list and may be considered for an interview. Placement on the eligible list does not guarantee an interview or employment.
