SAAF Mission

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation seeks to reduce HIV transmission, provide support and treatment for those living with HIV, reduce stigma and support positive sexual health. SAAF provides sexual health education, STI and HIV testing and counseling, medical care, case management, housing and meal support, mental health services and referrals for dental health. Access to care and early intervention have a significant impact on the health and well-being of people living with HIV.

Job purpose

The Testing & Outreach Specialist shall be responsible for the implementation of high-quality sexual health testing, education efforts and support services in coordination with SAAF’s Testing & Outreach Program. His/Her/Their main focus will be on testing and outreach to communities with disproportionately higher rates of HIV infection. 

This position demands a high level of cultural competency of the unique needs of the LGBTQ community, communities of color, and other marginalized populations. He/She/They will also provide support/referral services in-office and offsite, as well as initiate linkage and engagement to HIV-medical care and biomedical HIV prevention tools. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform HIV & STI testing on and off-site; this includes administering a rapid test (finger stick) and/or 4th generation blood draw. conducting an evaluation to determine clients’ risks, delivering results, along with pre- and post-test results counseling that may result to including linkage to HIV medical care. 
  • Perform community outreach, focusing on men who have sex with men (MSM) and other populations with disproportionately higher rates of HIV/STI infection. 
  • Precise, complete, and timely data collection and documentation. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications that are necessary for the position.

Qualifications include:

  • At least one/two years of outreach experience in target community; HIV testing and/or prevention education is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health, Anthropology, Sociology, or related field is strongly preferred; 
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred, but not required
  • Must have current TX driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle. 
  • Proof of current auto insurance to include both collision and general liability coverage is required

Working conditions

This job operates in a professional environment both on and offsite. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets and fax machines. The position also requires working with the community and frequent travel. Early morning, late evening and some weekend work is required for Outreach purposes as work duties demand.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. 

SAAF works daily with clients who may be immunocompromised. While evidence of COVID-19 vaccination is not required, employee may be asked to wear a mask while in the office.
