Roles and Responsibilities:
Job Summary/Overview:
The position of Sr. Infra Electrical Protection and Automation Engineer is primarily responsible for Protection, Coordination, Automation, and Controls within the Infra Electrical Engineering team. This role will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project management in HV/MV/LV protection and automation for the entire site electrical power distribution system, from HV substation down to LV distribution panelboards. The candidate is expected to have senior experience of all voltage levels 3 phase electrical equipment to lead the management of the site relaying and control system hardware, coordination of the system protection, and management of the site electrical power system model (ETAP). This position will be leading the protection scope for the infra electrical engineering team during the commissioning phase, operations phase, and capital projects phase of a semi-conductor manufacturing facility. Communication, collaboration, and technical mentorship with varying internal and external stakeholders is a key component of this role.
Specific Job Duties:
•This position will be responsible for protection, coordination, automation, and controls execution, scheduling, planning, coordinating engineering design, deployment, and commissioning. Field engineering experience testing/commissioning power and control systems required.
•Required experience with SEL Relays.
•Develop and maintain Samsung's Electrical Power Distribution System Protection and Model philosophy.
•Applies system protection engineering practices and principles in one or more of the following areas: distribution lines and buses, transformers, capacitor banks, reactor banks, grounding transformers, generators, motors, and communication assisted/automated protection schemes.
•Performs complex power system analysis, such as protective coordination, symmetrical (and occasionally asymmetrical) analysis, fault and arc-flash studies, load flows, service reliability, load forecasts, power quality, voltage stability, and system expansion (relay settings development and coordination) studies.
•Manages the service contract for independent or 3rd Party Protection & Coordination Engineers and/or manufacturers to complete design, commissioning, start-up, and operation of protection system.
•Manages the master ETAP and/or SKM model and provides revision control of all changes. Ensures the model stays up to date and that all custom arc-flash labeling in the field is current.
•Leads the continued development of and subsequent ownership of the processes and procedures required to govern highly-reliable operation and healthy of the protection and coordination systems for electrical power distribution.
•Prepares and reviews standards, equipment specifications, design procedures, and test procedures.
•Develops and reviews engineering designs, drawings, circuit maps, control diagrams, charts, databases, plans, and other documents for transmission and distribution systems, generation and substation facilities.
•Provides technical expertise in materials, design, equipment standards, relay coordination, technology or other areas related to the industrial plant industry.
•Provides technical leadership and mentorship for complex engineering and construction projects, and works closely with field personnel to support successful project completion.
•Communicate important and relevant information to the department and team leadership.
•Proactively identifying, managing, and mitigating project risk points for safety and code compliance.
•Development of detailed step plans incorporating risk analysis for applicable scope construction work.
•Recognize critical issues and act on them to preclude project problems.
•Manage all phases of the project in accordance with established schedules, budget, and customer requirements.
•Ensure that best-value practices are used to establish project scope and to manage changes.
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Skills and Qualifications:
Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required
BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Electrical Engineering (Master's in technical field a plus)
Minimum of 5 years experience with HV/MV/LV electrical power distribution, protection, and automation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools
Experience with relay commissioning, testing, and maintenance.
Experience with SEL relays and related controls, automation, and communication.
Advanced knowledge in electrical power system analysis and protection.
Strong creative problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills are required to effectively communicate technical content to various organizations.
Experience in a collaborative engineering team with the ability to provide mentorship.
Strong project management skillset, developing and maintaining quality/process/communication best practices.
Registered Professional Engineer in state of Texas (or ability to transfer from another state) is a plus.
