Job Description
Observes and leads members participating in athletic activities, camps and sporting events; ensures the proper maintenance of all sporting facilities and equipment; promotes good sportsmanship.
Athletics Responsibilities (90%)
Observes members participating in various sports such as football, basketball, soccer, baseball, etc.
Conducts various drills to teach members dribbling, shooting, and defense techniques.
Maintains order and control over members participating in sports; promotes good sportsmanship and practices proper discipline when necessary; maintains open communication with participants’ parents to discuss performance, behavior, and schedules.
Assists staff as requested, supervises, and monitors children during various camps, programs, and recreational and athletic activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children on the playground.
Generates accident and/or incident reports as needed; submits proper documentation to supervisor upon completion.
Participates in team meetings on a regular basis ensuring all team members are aware of sports schedule and plans.
Obtains, maintains, and secures sports equipment in compliance with acceptable standards to ensure the long life of equipment.
Ensures the cleanliness of the gymnasium, sports fields, equipment, etc. Sweeps, mops, sanitizes surfaces and notifies the supervisor of concerns.
Protects The Salvation Army interests by observing and preventing potentials for liabilities due to injuries; ensures the safety of all sports participants.
Assists the supervisor by assessing the need for additional teams, classes or rescheduling of daily activities; ensures the schedule of activities matches member expectations.
Prepares and maintains weekly reports of member participation in athletic events.
Other Responsibilities: (10%)
Coordinates and supports special events as needed.
Cross-trains in other program areas to provide support when needed; assists by ensuring other areas are opened/closed to the public and are staffed to assist with crowd control.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the fundamentals, rules and practices of modern sports to include football, baseball, and basketball.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of good sportsmanship.
Knowledge of the proper methods and procedures for maintaining sports equipment.
Ability to lead, instruct, and control members participating in sporting events.
Ability to work with members of all ages and to promote teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Ability to resolve and/or defuse disagreements or fights between participants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
and
Two years of experience observing sporting events and working with children,
Or
Two years of experience observing sporting events and working with children,
Or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 per hour
