SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Salvation Army is seeking a Peer Advocate for the Recovery Center. Life experience with substance use and someone who uses their experiential knowledge to support the recovery goals of individuals would be the best fit for this position. The Peer advocate would support services that are patient centered. The primary function of a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate is to facilitate outreach with individuals who are currently in a program or considering engaging in treatment.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understand principles and concepts of motivational interviewing and patient centered care.
• Explain and encourage treatment options to promote client centered choices.
• Assist patients in establishing benefits required in order to obtain treatment.
• Advocate for patients in a professional manner.
• Advocate using the proper chain of communication within the organization.
• Secure appropriate releases of information in accordance with the federal regulations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
• Maintain all required documentation.
• Model appropriate use of personal story and self-advocacy as needed.
• Promote a recovery and wellness-oriented lifestyle. Comply with NYPSCB code of ethical conduct and National Practice guidelines for peer supports.
• Abide by all The Salvation Army and program policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as requested by supervisor.
• Maintain a professional and approachable attitude.
• All other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• CRPA or provisional CRPA with full CRPA to be attained within NYS Certification Board requirements.
