Description

Salud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County. We began in Watsonville 1978 as a storefront “free clinic,” and with the ever growing need for health services, in 1992 became a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites, over 400 employees and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.

We are seeking a dynamic, organized and detail-oriented Vaccine Lead Medical Assistant, who in addition to the role and responsibility of the Medical Assistant, will ensure sites have the necessary immunizations to meet the needs of patient care, and ensure compliance with vaccine storage and quality control.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

In addition to the roles and responsibilities of the Medical Assistant, the Vaccine Lead is also responsible for the following:

  1. Perform a physical inventory of all vaccines in stock; account for doses of returned or transferred vaccines since the last order; order vaccines.
  2. Accept and process into inventory new vaccine shipments; ensure that acceptable temperature ranges have been maintained.
  3. Monitor vaccine inventory; rotate the vaccine inventory so that vaccines with shorter expiration dates are used first; ensure that there are no expired vaccines in the refrigerator or freezer; keep vaccine stocks separate.
  4. Monitor vaccine temperatures with use of a certified calibrated thermometer to review refrigerator and freezer temperatures; record minimum, current, and maximum temperatures twice a day.
  5. Take immediate action if temperatures are outside acceptable ranges; in coordination with Vaccine Coordinator, implement the emergency vaccine management plan, if necessary.
  6. Assist the Vaccine Coordinator in monitoring the quality of documentation through inventory and chart audits. Share findings with staff and implement corrective action if needed under direction of Vaccine Coordinator and Supervisor.
  7. Assist in ensuring new employees have completed eziz.org training modules and are oriented to CAIR.
  8. Participates and contributes to continuous quality improvement activities through meetings, and the development of clinic workflows and protocols.
  9. Ensure a productive work environment and achievement of goals through strategies and practices in line with the CARE fundamentals of communication.
  10. This position will not be assigned to a provider but will provide support to MAs as needed

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred
  • State of CA Medical Assistant certificate and two years of experience working as a Medical Assistant
  • Proficient in administering immunizations and with the CA immunization registry.
  • Fluent bilingual Spanish/English required; bicultural preferred;
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and current vehicle insurance; must have the ability to travel between sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary Range: $25.05 - $30.45 per hour.

Benefits include CA Sick Pay and Holiday Pay, prorated per hours worked.
