Work Calendar: Hourly
FTE: 0.7375 (29.5 Hours per Week)
Contract Status: Non-Contract
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Reports To: Community Education Supervisor or Designee
Starting Wage: $ 15.50 hourly
Salary Schedule/Lane: 86/H
Benefits: Not Eligible

Work hours may vary slightly depending on site location. Typical hours are 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Fridays.
JOB SUMMARY
The After School Group Leader works with students in after school programs, supervising, supporting, mentoring, monitoring, and ensuring that the district's after school programs are implemented in a service-oriented, safe, fair, and equitable manner.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent (not required for current High School students)
  2. Current Utah Department of Health Food Handler's Permit or ability to obtain prior to start date
  3. CPR/First Aid Certificate
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
  5. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  6. Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy and fax machines etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.
  1. College level course work
  2. Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite skills
  3. Experience with community programs, child development, Individual Education Plans, and concepts of learning
  4. Experience in a community program environment supporting multiple programs and services
  5. Experience providing age-appropriate activities, safety practices and procedures, and understanding of the stages of child development
  6. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  2. Administer first aid/CPR to students when necessary.
  3. Clean work areas (e.g. gym, computer lab, classrooms, etc.) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  4. Communicate and supervise students in a positive and patient manner, being understanding of child development stages.
  5. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  6. Participate in special projects as assigned by the site coordinator to program meet goals and objectives.
  7. Participate in trainings, to gain information, build skills and ensure quality student programs.
  8. Perform confidential and non-confidential record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) to ensure necessary records maintenance.
  9. Prepare and maintain food for students in accordance within Department of Health standards.
  10. Provide homework assistance to students in academic areas (e.g. reading, language, math, etc.) and promote good study habits.
  11. Receive/release students directly from/to parent or designee to ensure safety and meet district requirements.
  12. Supervise students in free time and academic settings (e.g. recess, study tables, field trips, special activities, etc.) to encourage and ensure a safe and positive educational environment
  13. Support site coordinator with projects, documentation, lesson planning, etc. to implement site goals
  14. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties.
  15. Under limited supervision, plan, organize, and facilitate age-appropriate activities for recess, indoor, outdoor, quiet, and active programs.
  16. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  17. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  18. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
