Salt Lake City School District is Hiring an After School Group Leader- Open Classroom Near Salt Lake, UT

Hourly Non-Contract
FTE: .5 (20/hrs. per week)
Anticipated Start: 02/01/2023
Open Until Filled

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
This position is not benefits eligible
Starting wage: $15.00 per hour (86-H)

Note: Work hours may vary slightly. Typical hours are 2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday- Friday.

Purpose Statement

The After School Group Leader works with students in after school programs, supervising, supporting, mentoring, monitoring and ensuring that the district’s after school programs are implemented in a service-oriented, safe, fair, and equitable manner. 

This position reports to the After School Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (Current high school seniors may be authorized for this position)
  2. Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  3. Current Utah Department of Health Food Handler’s Permit or ability to obtain prior to start date
  4. CPR/First Aid Certificate
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
  6. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  7. Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy and fax machines etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. College level course work
  2. Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite skills
  3. Experience with community programs, child development, Individual Education Plans and concepts of learning
  4. Experience in a community program environment supporting multiple programs and services
  5. Experience providing age appropriate activities, safety practices and procedures, and understanding of the stages of child development
  6. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak and understand

Essential Functions

  1. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  2. Administer first aid/CPR to students when necessary.
  3. Clean work areas (e.g. gym, computer lab, classrooms, etc.) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  4. Communicate and supervise students in a positive and patient manner, being understanding of child development stages.
  5. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  6. Participate in special projects as assigned by the site coordinator to program meet goals and objectives.
  7. Participate in trainings, to gain information, build skills and ensure quality student programs.
  8. Perform confidential and non-confidential record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) to ensure necessary records maintenance.
  9. Prepare and maintain food for students in accordance within Department of Health standards.
  10. Provide homework assistance to students in academic areas (e.g. reading, language, math, etc.) and promote good study habits.
  11. Receive/release students directly from/to parent or designee to ensure safety and meet district requirements.
  12. Supervise students in free time and academic settings (e.g. recess, study tables, field trips, special activities, etc.) to encourage and ensure a safe and positive educational environment
  13. Support site coordinator with projects, documentation, lesson planning, etc. to implement site goals
  14. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the
  15. Under limited supervision, plan, organize, and facilitate age-appropriate activities for recess, indoor, outdoor, quiet and active programs.
  16. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  17. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  18. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
