Job Specifications / Qualifications
Possess knowledge of patient care practice and procedures. Must demonstrate an understanding of control and prevention of hospital infections.
Knowledge of the basic principles of epidemiology and infectious disease, along with rudimentary knowledge and understanding of microbiology.
Must be knowledgeable about sterilization, sanitation, and disinfection practices.
Must be able to communicate in a tactful, non-threatening manner.
Must be knowledgeable in adult education principles.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office application knowledge, are required.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current RN license in good standing with the State of Arkansas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Include all of the following and other duties or tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor, his/her designee, or other management/supervisor.
Conducts ongoing surveillance of infections r/t personnel.
Keeps accurate records.
Compiles and presents infection control/employee health reports to appropriate committees.
Periodically inspects the environment and observes personnel activities to detect possible infection hazards. Reports findings to the department managers and appropriate committees.
Monitors and evaluates isolation, aseptic, and patient care techniques.
Collaborates with all departments to develop and update area-specific policies and procedures pertinent to infection control.
Disseminate information relative to infection control and implement appropriate infection control measures.
Tracks exposures and infections in hospital personnel; develops and implements employee health program.
Develops and participates in orientation and in-service programs.
Demonstrates the appropriate skills and ability, based on the scope of practice, level or training, and/or licensure, to assess and/or care for patients based on the age of the patient. Age groups may include newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Varying levels of practitioners and/or caregivers will have different skills and abilities. The skill and ability may include knowledge of growth and development, treatment ranges, and obtaining and interpreting information regarding patient needs.
Practices according to regulatory agency requirements, i.e., TJC, State Health, CDC, and CMS.
Investigate employee injuries and illnesses on request, recommending appropriate medical follow-up.
Serves on hospital committees relating to employee health and recommends policies and procedures.
Performs annual health screenings or testing as required.
