Location: Sunset Elementary School (High-Needs School) STUDENT SUPPORT WORKER Sunset Elementary School Purpose Statement: The job of Student Support Worker is done for the purpose/s of supporting students that have lagging social emotional skills; documentation students' behavioral needs; creating and implementing behavioral plans; and communicating with teachers, parents and/or other personnel. Supervisor: Building Principal Primary Responsibilities:
Implements behavior plans as defined by the referring teacher and/or counselor for the purpose of developing students’ basic social and interpersonal skills.
Facilitates social emotional groups for Tier II and III students.
Monitors math, reading and other lessons assigned by referring teacher for the purpose of ensuring completion of assignments.
Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school settings (e.g. proctoring tests, completing homework, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
Participates as an active member of the student improvement team meetings working collaboratively with families and other staff to develop plans for student success.
Works as part of a leadership team with the school counselor and social worker to support the development of social emotional skills for students across the building PreK-5th Grade.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and administering first aid. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: behavior and crisis management techniques ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; communicating in a positive, non-threatening manner; and building effective relationships. Experience: Job related experience is required. Education: Bachelor’s degree or five years comparable job experience.
