Under the supervision of the Kids Gym Coordinator, provides a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
KNOW HOW
The ideal candidate will be at least 14 years of age. This person should have experience working with children and building relationships with staff, parents, and children. The ideal candidate should have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings of others, be able to relate well to children and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
Positively reinforce good behavior in the children participating. Limit discipline to redirection and calm conversations. Avoid group punishments and loud confrontations.
Help with general housekeeping tasks.
Supervise the activity areas.
Treat all children with dignity and respect.
Greet parents and children by name. Provide a welcoming and friendly greeting to all participants.
Always have eye contact with children and adults.
Properly fill out incident reports whenever necessary.
Be directly involved with the group at all times.
Strive to build positive relations with all staff and participants.
Participate in planned activities with children as needed.
Must sign the Salina Family YMCA Code of Conduct, Emergency Procedures, and Employee Handbook agreements.
Follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
All other duties as requested.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees must follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA. Employees must be able to lift a fifty (50) pound object, remain alert, move to various locations, communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, identify noises of distress, ability to handle irate, complaining, or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made and have the ability to make sound judgments and decisions, even when distracted by noise or activity. Employees must have their CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire and maintain active certifications though the duration of employment. Employees must have the ability to recognize potential hazards.
