POSITION SUMMARY : Under the direction of the Child Nutrition Director the Food Specialist will handle all food preparation and maintain quality food according to state regulations.

Maintain a clean kitchen and a good relationship with the teachers, assistants, and other YMCA staff members. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and consistently demonstrating professional conduct.
• Maintain a clean and safe kitchen and storage environment.
• Operate daily kitchen equipment such as ovens, grill, dishwasher, broiler, etc.
• Maintain acceptable standards in the Food Service areas based upon the State of Kansas, OSHA, USDA, and CACFP Regulations.
• Assess technical skills in the areas of meat cutting, baking, salad preparation, and a la carte food preparation.
• Follow all assigned schedules, menus, and operations.
• Assist in menu preparations.
• Assist in ordering food and inventory management.
• Assist in managing the overall food expenses as needed.
• All other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• A minimum of 6 months experience assisting and preparing food for groups of up to 200 people.
• Must be knowledgeable and can take classes regarding food preparation.
• Maintain a positive relationship with children, employees, and guests.
• Strong interpersonal, written, verbal and mathematical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
• Use good judgment and discretion within the department and assignments.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Follow all Salina Family YMCA and Kansas Department of Health and Environment safety requirements.
• Certifications : CPR & First Aid, within 30 days of hire.
• Must complete fingerprint, background and TB screening.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

• Must regularly lift and / or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
• Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
• Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
• Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
• May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
• Work in different temperature environments.
