Salina Family Healthcare Center is Hiring an Optometrist Near Salina, KS

Hiring Range - $105,000 - 115,000\annually 

FLSA Status - Exempt 

General DescriptionThe Optometrist diagnoses, manages, and treats conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. This position will include analyzing vision tests, identifying sight problems, and prescribing corrective lenses and eyeglasses. This position will require OSHA training and will be subject to blood and other bodily fluids. In accordance with HIPAA regulations, this position requires full access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Such disclosure is necessary to perform the requirements of the job. Confidentiality of PHI must be maintained.

Working ConditionsThe position requires normal range of body motion, hearing and eyesight in order to perform duties of the position. Requires hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, scanner, calculator and other office equipment. Employee must be able to write, speak, and hear. Employee must be able to read small print both on paper and on a computer screen for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time (7-9 hours). Occasionally you may lift and/or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and stretching. Interaction with others is frequent and can often be disruptive so the ability to multi task is important. This is a medical office environment involving frequent contact with staff and patients. There will be exposure to airborne and bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous materials common in a clinic. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Essential Duties1. Evaluates the visual system, eye and adnexa to diagnose, treat and manage refractive and ocular conditions. Provides

and/or refers for diagnostic testing, vision therapy and low vision services as applicable. Treats and/or refers ocular

pathology appropriately based on experience and privileges.
2. Examines eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity and perception,

focus and coordination to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities, such as diabetes or hypertension.
3. Prescribes, supplies, fits and adjusts eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
4. Prescribes medications to treat eye diseases, removes foreign bodies from the eye, and analyzes test results and

develops appropriate treatment plans.
5. Prescribes therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision and provides vision therapy and low-vision

rehabilitation.
6. Educates and counsels patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
7. Provides patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative

care.
8. Completes all required documentation accurately, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards and

to comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation, and finalizing notes.
9. Supervises the Eye Clinic staff. Ensures departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, SHEF policies and

procedures.
10. Attend, arrange, and/or present didactic noon conference sessions as assigned.
11. Participate in the Clinical Providers meeting and other committee meetings as assigned/appointed.
12. Willingness to educate medical residents, students, patients, other healthcare personnel, and the community.
13. Work collaboratively with the clinical team to promote continuity of patient care.
14. Attend and participate in meetings as assigned (joint staff, department, etc.).
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

correspondence by using proficient grammar, spelling and punctuation.
6. Document in a neat, legible manner and be able to spell medical terminology correctly.
7. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and ability to effectively and respectfully interact with unsatisfied

patients and coworkers.
8. Manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and prioritize workload.
9. Effectively and efficiently organize tasks.
10. Effectively and efficiently manage time
11. Consistently follow written policies and procedures.
12. Work independently and use good judgment.
13. Effectively operate standard office machines including copier, fax, multi-line phones, printers, scanners, etc.

Education and Experience Required1. Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school;
2. Current KS licensure to practice optometry;
3. Must have and maintain BLS certification;
4. Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.

Education and Experience Preferred1. Two years of relevant clinical experience working as an Optometrist;
2. Prior supervisory experience.
