Description

Position Summary:

A Shipping and Receiving Clerk (Inventory Control Specialist), tracks, traces and updates the status of incoming and outgoing shipments. Their duties include packing and preparing outgoing shipments via Fed Ex and/or courier, reviewing incoming and outgoing shipment schedules to maintain productive operations, working with vendors to rectify and damages or discrepancies and maintaining inventory records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

Shipping Responsibilities:

  • Verify correctness, integrity and quality of outgoing shipments
  • Prepare, wrap & label packages for shipping (include packing lists)
  • Track and record out going shipments (FedEx, courier, hot shot, etc.)
  • Ensure on time delivery using the most cost-effective method of shipment 
  • Maintain records to include relevant details for both package tracking and billing purposes
  • Be point person for onsite customer pick-ups
  • Record outgoing shipment data for reporting to other departments including Client Relations, Field Ops and Accounting

Receiving Responsibilities:

  • Track and record all incoming shipments 
  • Manages the receipt of all products materials, and supplies
  • Receives goods and verifies the quality and count of all items; checks against suppliers’ count/packing list and our purchase order reporting discrepancies to supervisor 
  • Routes incoming shipments to the proper departments or warehouse section
  • Record incoming shipment data for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes
  • Responsible for notifying and dealing with shippers when merchandise was found to be damaged or lost
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins
  • Maintains inventory of materials and supplies (min-max/Kanban)

Inventory/Other Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and communicate with logistics, manufacturing and other relevant departments to determine best shipping method for delivery of products whether to site or direct to customer
  • Engages vendors, drivers and customers with a positive attitude.
  • Enter numbers/data into an Excel spreadsheet and/or purchase order system
  • Coordinates with Procurement Manager and Accounting Team to record/track items pulled from inventory and moved into WIP (Work In Process)
  • Ensure that all scrap lists are handled, and all scrap is loaded for removal in a timely manner
  • Communicate with supervisors and other team members to ensure inventory accuracy and timely deliveries.
  • May operate forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goods
  • Carries out facilities maintenance duties as needed
  • Assists in vinyl production as necessary
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and member-ready area
  • Responsible for continuous improvement (ideas and suggestions)
  • Responsible to follow all OSHA and safety rules and regulations

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong sense of time organization and urgency
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite to maintain records, input data, and create reports.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 6 months logistics, retail, or customer service experience
  • Forklift Certification within 90 days of job entry date
  • State motor vehicle operators permit for operation of forklift highly preferred.

Reporting to this Position: No direct reports.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be at least 18 years of age due to work conditions.

  • Physical Demands: This position objects of up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 lbs. occasionally, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions. The employee must be able to traverse distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching utilizing abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Work Environment: This position regularly works in a variety of weather conditions that include cold, heat and humidity within the warehouse and on the loading dock. The noise level in the work environment is commensurate with a construction site.

Expected Hours of Work/Travel: This is a full-time position in the Winston Salem office during regular business hours. Days and hours of work are dictated by the nature of the scope of work which can include long hours and weekend work. This position will not require any travel.
